At 51, time's running out for me to try a lot of different cars. And one of my earliest movie memories is that Interceptor on Road Warrior. I had a couple good-handling momentum cars but never had a V8. Kinda thinking SS 1LE since it's looking like a '22 BRZ will be tough to get this winter.

Absolutely. It’s a whole different experience, and it cemented my preference for lighter, smaller cars. But it is really fun in its own right.

Yeah, that's on my short list but I missed the chance to order a new one. It's one of the cars that I figure can be bought on the used market for less in 2023 than 2022 so I can wait a bit for it while I decide if the 86 has enough power.

Love the M2 fender flares, but in the end, not sure a used M2 is worth the price premium over a used M240. Of course, I ended up choosing a new 2020 BRZ over both, but a used M240 was the closest thing to second place ...

I had a 2020 BRZ for a period of time. Satisfied with your choice?

I actually just traded in my '16 BRZ for a '17 M2. Totally loving it so far!

Absolutely - although certainly wishing I could have held out for a 2022!! Still not upset - I needed something new and couldn't have waited it out (at the time, didn't know anything about actual 2022 release dates).

I look under the hood of my Ascent and wonder how you could rearrange all that and fit it in the BRZ. Look under the hood of a 2022 WRX and that would be a better 'what if' they put that in the BRZ. There are more differences in the Ascent 2.4 and the BRZ 2.4 than a turbocharger. My Ascent has a lower compression engine and even with the turbo, it burns petrol-swill gas.

Tongue in cheek: I’m sure a turbo version will be available in the coming months… there are many competent tuners working on that :-) I drove mine NA for 4 years, and then had a turbo setup put on as an turn key solution from a competent shop/tuner in my area, and never looked back (or elsewhere!)… it’s been 4 years since, and I’m still very happy with the car. From what I can gather, The gen2 provides an even better platform to build on, which is quite exciting. Initially I was concerned about making such updates to the stock car, but working with a shop that had done all the R&D ahead and stand behind their system was a positive and reliable experience for me. It also was a way to spread costs over time, and upgrade the car after some time. This being said, based on people’s experience with the hen2 so far, I expect less people will feel a need to go FI with it.

I just can't imagine how you add FI to a 13:1 compression ratio but we'll find out soon.

Valve and spark timing plus fueling.

All three sound very inefficient. We'll see but if that's the strategy I predict horrible fuel economy and very modest power gain.
Would replacing the pistons be labor-cost prohibitive? Maybe that's what the "Stage 2" kits will do.

The engine compression ratio is the same with the 2.0 lt engine. How you add FI? Oh easy ... You install an aftermarket turbo kit with zero warranty and then just pray that you'll be one of the lucky ones.

As mentioned above, the CR is 12.5 and the same as gen 1, which was successfully FI’ed by a lot of people. The trick is to have a good tuner who will tune responsibly for reliability, unless one wants max performance at the risk of damaging the engine. On mine, With a « stage 1 » and conservative tune (read reliable) (up to 9psi) boost levels, I had about 70%+ increase in HP/tq over stock. When going stage 2 with lower CR forged pistons, it was 100% increase over stock, with higher boost levels.

People are completely forgetting that this car is a throwback to the ae86. Which was a cheap accessible lightweight na rwd coupe that people can mod to their hearts content. Factory FI will never be considered by Toyota for this car.
