Apparently there is a TSB for this - maybe time to play the warranty card?

I ordered some Nappa Leather driving gloves off Ebay last year and they feel lovely and soft (well ventilated too) - not sure how they'd survive tracking though.

They aren't fireproof - just intended to reduce the wear on my steering wheel which is taking some serious strain when I'm on track.

The semis that I use now (RE11S), combined with some negative camber, have made my steering very heavy at the limit.
I'm OK with that - the feedback and control is excellent, but it's tiring and hard on the steering wheel.

I don't know if I'll be able to get used to gloves. I've never driven with them so I've got some reservations.

They feel good though - nice and soft.

Recently bumped into Ken Gushi at a Motor Show,

Who is Ken Gushi?
Kenshiro "Ken" Gushi is one of Japan's top competitors in the sport of drifting.

Born in Okinawa, Japan, but raised in Los Angeles, he was taught by his father Tsukasa Gushi at the age of 13 with a Toyota AE86.

Ken became the youngest competitor in both the D1 Grand Prix of Japan and the Formula Drift Championships of the U.S. at the age of 16.
Ken’s weapon of choice is a GReddy 2JZ FR-S/GT86

Some of Ken's driving:

Drifting a stock Scion FRS/GT86:

Heres a few questions I asked him,
(had a waterproof casing on my GoPro - Rookie mistake)
(Video edited on Microsoft Movie Maker)
Told him he is welcomed to come to South Africa to drift

Cool! If you see him again ask him what his thoughts are on a stock 86 as a drift car.

One of those videos above is him drifting the stock 86, looks like it's on a wet track thou, (handbrake , gearing and footing look top notch ... Cool seeing a professional do it on a stock car :-) )

Here's his first impressions on the 86:

Awesome clip @sickmint79

Enjoyed the pass at 10min 49 sec's

Those flat out's at 100mile/hour look exciting!

How would you rate the Killarney experience compared to other international track events you have been to?

i was curious as to the windows rule there - here we need windows full down, even in the rain; so you can pull someone out if you need to. the opposite was true there, your window had to be at least halfway up. why??

our passing rules seem more strict at home too. straights only and with a point by only. some groups may occasionally have turning allowed everywhere in advanced.

killarney has a ton of walls! and lots of loopy corners, it seems like a big drifty track if you wanted to. which reminds me it seemed to be ok to drift a turn if you didn't have anyone around, which would not be something you could get away with at our hpdes. most of the tracks by me have a lot of run off and little walls, also pretty flat. the one with the most wall action going on is road america, although in general it seems to have a lot more run off as well. takes some guts to push it at killarney! a stock brz on most of the more popular and accessible tracks gets to 100 or so and killarney seemed to be the same if not a little faster. super cool to see table mountain in the background while going around!

also i'll add this price was shockingly cheap, $34 US iirc to get on from 2-6. of the 5 tracks around chicagoland only one ever has something like that, and it is $75. else a track day is full day and $200-300 USD.

as far as international tracks, i just got really lucky here. they aren't really that easy to get on generally. i have been on the nurburgring and a few days ago did a formula 3000 on the yas marina circuit. much easier to find places to kart. yas had a good place, and i did a nice big outdoor one in sao paulo as well. signed up for dirtfish rally school (in a brz) in march. trying to make my travel blog the place to go to check out for car experiences. if you click on the car tag i want it to be a bunch of cool car things to do... not a bunch of stuff about rental cars. ;p

Thanks a lot for taking the time to do those vids @sickmint79, much appreciated!
It was great meeting you and showing you a bit of the Cape. Next time come for longer, there is LOTS to see haha.

Sounds like you had an awesome trip, would love to travel and do something similar, based around motoring activities.

Looking forward to seeing the footage from the rest of your trip - have you rendered it yet?
