So there is no hope for a 9.5 rim anymore?

I guess that leaves 17x9 and 18x8.5, and perhaps the rare 18x9 whoever can do that?

From what I have seen, I will be going with a 18x8.5 +45 with a 235 tire.

Going wider is possible with extra effort… but if you want to lower the car with near stock alignment (minimal neg camber) - this car is just not well suited to super wide fitments

We test fit an 18x9.5 +42 with a 245/35/18 just for fun. Did not fit on OEM suspension, but more than anything it just looks really bad.

We will probably go with an 18x8.5 for our car. Don't really need or want a 9.5 wide wheel anyway.

Very unfortunate that's "the" spec for these cars lol. A lot of wheels look less appealing with those specs, little to no concavity.

I'm biased as I'm targeting wheels for stock suspension but the sweet spot seems to be 8 wide +40 or 8.5 wide +45. Trying to balance flush (as possible), tire size, and good fitment...

As of today I'm thinking 18x8.5 +45 on 235/40/18. Could also go 245/35/18 to keep tire diameter close to OEM spec.

Also considering narrower 18x8 + 45 also on 235/40/18. I like sidewall. But the wheels would be slightly sunken in.

Knowing the paralysis I get when trying to decide, I probably won't buy anything for 4 years.

I've said this elsewhere, but absolutely nothing wrong with an 8 inch wide wheel for most people. I run a 17x8 on my 1st gen with a 225/45/17 with a nice not quite perfectly flush but very functional offset. It isn't hotboi fitment but also it isn't hotboi fitment.

Yup, that flat face kills so many wheels. It really sucks

It's not about the "hotboi" spec, it's that a lot of wheel designs look better with a little concavity. You don't get that with +45 offsets at 8" widths..

I know this thread is for the BRZ, but I'll be picking up my GR86 tomorrow if the test drive goes well....I looked at the rear fender (and I may be wrong) but I think it looks a little different to the Subaru one? If so, maybe the rubbing issue may be easier on the GR86. I'll post pics soon.

Anyone know a nice looking wheel with concavity with 18x8.5 specs?

That's a fair point.

The rear sheet metal and suspension geometry is identical

@DocWalt you are most likely correct. It was a quick look in the cold, I thought it may have been different.

So 18x8.5 is the new widest wheel. (OR 17X9?) What offset do you think will give the best flush without rubbing on the rear fender?

If someone can please answer for stock suspension and coilovers.

Thank you

17x9 ET45 fits the rear pretty flushly and no rubbing when lowered. It would probably poke a lot at stock height.

Zero rubbing, and plenty of clearance to the front strut tower. I plan to lower the car modestly, eventually. Cheers!

I keep coming back to your set up, I like the way it sits and how the tire looks. The wheel (Enkei TS-5) I want only comes in +45 in 17x8 size. Seems like I'll have to play around to get the same exact fitment. Also plan on getting RCE SS-1 Coilovers eventually for a very modest drop, maybe the bare minimum 20mm I read about in a different thread. Man, I can't wait for my BRZ to get built!
