The norm here for "Empty Weight" is all fluids (incl. washer), 90% of a tank, and all safety equipment (triangle, first-aid kit, jack, repair kit, etc.).

I’m seeing ‘20s with miles on them going for over MSRP. With the 2nd gens on the way. Really. Market is certifiably crazy right now. I try to avoid any more crazy in my life than I already being to the table.

Best buy in a 1st gen now is a ‘13 with a blown motor you can get for cheap for a dedicated track build. No other reason to get one or hold onto one unless you absolutely hate the 2nd gen styling IMO.
I bought my 2020 highly discounted and sold it to CarMax for almost $10,000 more. I kind of have sellers remorse but that cash is the down payment for the new one. I’m interested to see what the 2022s are going to go for used. Lol
Obviously I’ll be paying MSRP minus any manufacturer rebates. It’s looking like $500 off in my area until Jan 3rd…

This is somewhat similar to the dilemma I am facing right now. I bought my current Civic Sport in fall of 2020 after selling my BMW 1 series that had been a headache the entire time I owned it. The Civic was a Sport model coupe with a manual that had just been rotting on the lot, and I got it for a nice discount. It’s been a fun and simple auto-x and canyon car, and a big sigh of relief over the BMW, lol.

Since 2010 I’ve also had a Honda Accord sedan that I was very fortunate to have my parents buy me when I was a sophomore in college. It’s been my commuter to and from work since graduating college and my plan was to keep it until the Twins came out. Then I was going to sell the Accord, move the Civic over to daily duty, and have the Twin as the new weekend car. This was all expecting the typical depreciation curve of a new car purchase.

Instead, my Civic is now worth almost $7,000 more than I paid for it and would cover a seriously large portion of the price of a new GR86. Problem is, I like the Civic and think it’s really a perfect commuter car and I’d kind of hate to get rid of it so soon.

Crazy time market wise for sure.

Are these used FT86's bought by dealers actually selling though? I bought my 2020 last April for 25,700. I sold it in November for 30,000. I keep checking the web site, and CarMax still hasn't sold it for the 30,980 list price.

I think they are just sitting on them tbh. I kinda feel bad for anyone who has to buy a used car right now as they are buying in at the height of the market and will likely be under water in a year or so. I certainly considered selling mine when I saw they were going for more than I paid 6 years ago... BUT a paid in full toy is PIF toy so I stayed.lol

my wife drives the M135i X F40 and will switch to the GR86 in may 22. our market is so overheated that you can get enough for your bmw without losing anything in 2 years i think the price is perfect for the gr86

Configuration

For me I bought my 2020 highly discounted. It was missing the color I wanted, manual transmission and heated seats. I loved mine but now that I have a premium with color and tranny picked reserved at my dealer here I feel like the fun factor will go to the next level with finally being able to get my hands on a manual transmission. There’s 2020s on vroom and Carmax with some of the options that I want but when they’re just about as much as the 2022. So for me it’s going to be a next level from the 2020!

I bought my 2020 86 GT with the performance pack for $28,700 last March. Vroom is buying it for $32,448 and my 2022 GR86 premium will be here later this month.

None of the twins have been US built.
They all come from one plant in Gunma, Japan.
All of them, worldwide.

I'm unaware of any plans to move or expand production at present.
I don't think that they should have to.

I'm sore that North America isn't getting the GR Yarris.
Get one of those while you can

Well, if this anime becomes super popular like initial d, perhaps the first gens will become highly sought after like the ae86 haha

I took my 14 year old son to a comic book store a couple of times in the holiday season and the first time he bought 2 Initial D books and a few more the second time. As a kid he thought the best car had to be a Bugatti Veyron or Chiron since they have 1200 to ? horsepower.

Any info about the pricing in Germany? Im not sure they will sell any up here due to the severe co2 tax. I hope some will sell in Germany at least, makes it fairly easy to import.
