I don't remember at what temperature the previous BRZ/GT86s start pulling the timing at..if the computer doesn't read the oil temps maybe it was based on Coolant Temps
It's an actual sensor in the timing cover next to the oil pressure switch. Not certain if the new gen uses oil temp in timing tables. Coolant for sure. Most STi models start pulling timing at 214*, but that's F/I.

From product dyno testing with a 15 WRX with this same setup, we'd generally see a 20* difference from the OEM sensor to the sump, with the sump being the colder of the two.

By "sump", I assume that you mean oil pan? Is the 20* difference due to pressurization of the oil or because the oil galley is hot from the engine's heat?

Yes, sump = oil pan. The sender was in the drain port.

I have no idea. We've never done testing with the OEM sender, but the dyno sender is very precise and calibrated regularly. Neither exceeded 260°, so it never became more than an anecdotal observation. 20° was the max difference under 'cruise' conditions. Once on boil or under sustained load the difference would drop some, but not a lot.

Did they use your car to do testing/development for a system they intend to release soon? I have their system in my 4Runner and I love it.

I thought I'd read a year or so ago that Ace was done making stuff for this platform and was focusing on Porsche stuff instead.
