Weird noise coming from rear wheels.
Hi everyone,
Long time lurker here, just bought my car last year during memorial day. Yay! So I have an issue with this annoying ticking noise coming from the rear wheels and it echoes in the trunk. The noise starts around 55mph and gets louder and the frequency increases as I accelerate. I brought it to the dealership multiple times and they couldn't find anything wrong, nothing was loose, everything was in place, etc. At this point I assume its an internal issue with either the rear axle or cv joints, no clue I'm a novice. I looked through the forums to find if anyone had an issue similar to mine, but I couldn't find one with my particular issue. So I took a video inside my trunk and the noise seems to come from outside the rear right wheel. Mileage is around 6000 when i first heard the noise. This issue has been bugging me for the past 2000 miles, and I took it to the dealership 3 times this month to get it fixed. I'm going to a different one this Tuesday with some hope of it finally getting fixed. Thanks for your time. |

Tried several times and just not hearing anything. I would think they have checked the axle nuts but who knows.

I can't hear anything either. Like mentioned, I would have them check the axle nuts. Check for anything (like a rock) stuck in the tire. It may be a brake pad dragging or the emergency brake shoe dragging. Like you mentioned, it may be a CV joint going bad. I hope you get it sorted out and fixed. humfrz |

Yeah the sound quality isn't that great. You can kind of hear it if you turn the volume up loud enough, but it generally sounds like a card hitting the spokes of a bicycle wheel. I took that video about 2-3 weeks ago, but the sound is way more noticeable now.
I definitely appreciate the feedback though, I'll get the dealer to check out the cv joints and the axle nuts. Thanks! |

When I first got my car I noted ticking sound coming from the rear, its intermittent and has been widely reported on this forum (related to welds in the trunk). The second sound crept up on me and again coming from the back clicking/feint clinking/screechy type of sounds and again widely reported as our friends the crickets..
I think you need to live with the car for at least a few months to let things bed down and then go hunting... Last edited by JD001; 01-28-2017 at 05:39 AM. |

I can hear it clearly esp at the beginning and end of the video. It sounds like a very fast tick-tick -tick....sounds too fast to be the usual interior body sounds that others have heard in the past. I have had various ticks from the rear of the car but nothing like that. Since you mentioned that it changes as you accelerate, I bet it is coming from the drive train. But I can't help you anymore than that. Hopefully the new dealer will give you an answer. Keep us updated!

Hi quick update.
My dealership called me back today and told me my spoiler was loose. I have a TRD spoiler in the back and apparently the tape holding it down was weakening. So when driving at higher speeds the wind would slip underneath it, causing a ruckus. http://imgur.com/a/3VUZN Here an image of the spoiler and where it was coming off.
