Also, fuck zoning restrictions. It is absurd that a town decides what I can or cannot do with MY HOUSE. Within reason.
So what you are saying is that your 'within reason' is different than the town's 'within reason'?

To explain this better, my house was placed precisely in the middle of a lot, on a designated zoning. I have 4 neighbors, 2 to back of my house, one tot he right, one to the left. I can see one of the neighbor's house that is to the rear, his backyard extends to my right neighbor, my backyard, and part of the other rear neighbor. His lot take about 60% of the zone, leaving the rest of us to divide the rest.
From what I was told, when the houses were assigned their lots, someone pulled a fast one and gave that mentioned property priority on the other ones. and the distribution of the land got all messed up.

With my house sitting in the middle of my lot, with a distance of 50Ft between every property line, this means, 50ft to the street, 50 to the rear, left and right.
My zone gets tricky after this, I cannot build any permanent structure within 50ft of the property line. Guess how much distance my house is between every line? 50Ft. Even though my rear neighbor doesnt use all of his property, because my backyard is just a bunch of trees, I had to go trough every single problem to get approval for a 10x12 deck, which almost didn't get approved by 1 vote, after spending $3000 in permits and forms.

Can't build a garage, can't get a portable one either. Have to ask permission to do any type of construction. Oh and did I mention that whenever a board member feels like it, they can come inspect my house?

Fuck that.

Why is a portable not allowed?

You can have it, just gotta get a permit, pay inspector before installing, pay after, pay for license. So its allowed, but not really. Still has to go thru a board. This is the price I pa for a quiet-middle of fckn nowhere town.

movable structures are usually allowed..

i know an excavator contractor that put his massive office on 2 flat skids so he 'could' tow it around the yard with 2 of those really big bulldozers if he wanted to.

irked the town because he put up a new office space without permits, but because it was legally a mobile unit, it wasn't required.

this toro 826 is really starting to get on my nerves.

new fuel line/filter, new carb, new spark plug, new magneto, new-ish fuel. still can't even get it to even sputter with starting fluid.

even took the head off to check for valve damage, and changed the oil just in case..

i guess i'm off to the parts store for a compression and spark tester...

Is the weirdest thing, I can use the house as a day care, as a GARAGE to store vehicles, and can have a garage, but you need a special permit to build a garage. Okay, but since is a permanent structure, can't build at the same time. Get a fordable one, you need to register it, and get special permits, license, and inspector. You can't win. Most of these rules were adapted back in the 80s and haven't touched ever since.

what i don't get is that most of those prefab movable structures are certified by a few different national regulatory agencies as a complete unit. ie; all light fixtures are UL listed, which specifically allows the mfg to leave a tiny 18 gauge wire for me to connect to. but i cannot legally connect a wire to it smaller than 14 gauge...

mobile homes are the same deal-- they have some overall janky wiring and plumbing practices, but are certified as a complete assembly, and thereby legal everywhere.

what are they permitting and inspecting? alterations to the prefab structure?

it's too late now that you've gone through the process and created a target on your back, but it would've been better to, as they say "ask for forgiveness than permission" at the start of it. they likely wouldn't of even said anything had you just slapped it up without going through the whole process...

I was already planning to sell the house in about 5 years, the humongous oak tree in front of my house is driving me insane with the amount of acorns that hit both our cars. Can't take it down without paying a fortune because is so close to the house and power lines. Might just have to cut the branches directly on top of the driveway.
