TRD Quickshift AND Short Shifter?

I bought the FT86SF short shifter and was wondering if it would be a good idea to install the TRD quickshifter as well.

Is this a mod where you only should install the one option and not both? Or is it overkill to have both installed?

Want to know if anybody else have experience with this combo. Any possible issue that could derive from this?

You will shift gears so fast that you will finish before you started. There could be some sort of time vortex created.


I would think it would be over kill since both do the same sort of thing in a different way.


There have been a PILE of issues with the quickshifter reported on here and I personally wouldn't touch one.

Jokes aside. I definitely do not want to have something where I have to glue shut and even then coming off... Im already having problems with the FT86SF short shifter where the rod connecting through the short shifter is not connecting at all.... Contacting the company to see what they can do.

There was somewhere someone paired the TRD "quickshifter" with a Kartboy shifter but it required more effort. I had the TRD quickshifter and I'd have to tighten the bolt every few weeks or months because it kept coming lose. It was nice when it worked though....

Beware of the TRD Quickshifter. I had one on my car and the bolt that holds it onto the shift linkage invariably comes loose and leaves you unable to shift into gear. I had locktite on mine and it still came loose. Plenty of posts on this forum about how they are junk. YMMV.

@jc7993 I have not personally ran into the issue of the bolt holding the adapter piece coming loose or detached as mentioned above and it's been 5k+ miles. Mine is paired up the STI short shifter. I did coat the whole bolt in blue loctite as well as at the threads of the adapter piece with loctite prior to putting it in. Also tightened the bolt from the interior rather from the underside as there was more leverage. I did check about 1k miles after the install and it was still holding in just fine w/ the same amount of threads sticking out of the adapter piece since I've put it in.

But honestly, I wouldn't say it's junk right away. It's just a lazier way of making the shifter w/ shorter throws. I think at the end, you can always replace that bolt with a slightly longer one and add a nylock nut (w/ loctite on that as well) to prevent it from backing out.


Edit: the only issue you will run into is that it might rub against the driveshaft depending on how much longer the bottom side of the short shifter is prior to the TRD quick shifter adapter. Make sure you do install the bushing that comes with the TRD quick shifter kit as that gives a lot less play when driving compared to stock.
