For a valid comparison you'd have to have pics taken from exactly the same height and distance with exactly the same focal length. You can tell the pic of the current-gen is taken from a lower vantage point. You can see the near fender peak, but not the other side. On the pic of the new car you can see across to the fender pontoon on the other side. On the pic of the new car that opposite fender and that opposite side of the hood *appear* "higher". But we're really just looking from a different vantage point. For sure the new car's hood/fender lines appear to be at the same height, maybe a bit lower, for sure lower at the current car's fender-bumps. Quote:

I measured my 2018 by placing a 4' level across the top of the roof humps and it came around 50 1/2". Is the shark fin antenna included in the height? Edit: looks like 86's are listed as 50.6" through the 2020 model. |

I still bet that the reportedly lower engine and lower c.g. height are the result of lowering the car on the suspension and not individually lowering different bits of car in the sprung chassis... |

I think it’s the fin. The original antenna wouldn’t be included in a height measurement, but I can see the fin being counted since it’s a rigid painted surface. |

They explain the lower COG. Dropped engine, aluminum roof, aluminum front fenders, lower driver position, and repositioned supsension.

Its 0-60 is still gonna be somewhere around the 6 second range (faster than the current one which ranges between 6.2-7.4 depending on who measured it in what part of the world) Thats not even luxury sports car numbers which is now under 4 seconds! Subaru try to keep up!!!! |

Sitting low in the chassis, the Subaru BOXER’s unique design allows the BRZ to achieve a Center of Gravity (CoG) even lower than the previous BRZ and on par with exotic hyper-cars That indeed helped but they tell us specifically about the other things they did. It is not a mystery.

Also consistent with simply placing the engine lower in the car. It is in black and white from an official source. This isn't eve a debatable point.
Yes they lowered the whole car but they also put the engine lower as well. Sitting low in the chassis, the Subaru BOXER’s unique design allows the BRZ to achieve a Center of Gravity (CoG)
