Burning smell

Hi gang,

So I recently purchased and installed an injen CAI and Unichip. The first 2 days after install I was experiencing bucking, jolting and a general loss of power at low rpms. Some research and I discovered that Injen CAI has had issues with some of their parts.. So i took it out and everything became awesome.. no more smell and just power.. drive-ability.

The Unichip is supposed to be programmed for either 87, 89 or 92 octane and I didnt realize that I was using 91 this entire time!! so, at the pump I went looking for 92 and found none. In fact, in ma their is no 92 available so I recently put in 93 and I am using that.

My question, today, just now when I was driving i got a faint and super brief whiff of that burning almost rubber smell and it disappeared. What do you think is happening here? change in fuels? ECU relearning to use this fuel? Should I be worried? cause I am getting stressed about it and damn ready to sell the chip.

I should also add that I checked all the unichip wiring and nothing is burned or near a hot operational device.

on a side note, I am selling the Injen CAI. I have contacted them and they are sending me a new pipe to replace the original making sure to get rid of no spot welds. Its basically brand new and has like 100 miles on it. I have proof its a new pipe via email trail and receipts. The only reason I am selling it is because its sooo f'ing loud. I cant hear my engine and I like to hear my engine. I got it on sale for $270.

help anyone?

thanks
Josh

I've notice a burning smell when slipping the clutch too much (like when driving in San Francisco). 2013 FR-S.

Could this be the cause in your case?

If it is a manual transmission, then my guess would also be the clutch.

Did you change your map for the Unichip after taking out the intake? If not, it's still programmed to think that the Injen is still there.

I have a really tricky garage to park in, and I notice the faint smell of clutch from time to time. You have to 3 point turn just to get in and out of it, and it is quite tight, and you have to crawl about... I no such wifs of clutch in my Evo :/

Hey guys,

I do have a manual tranny and its possible it could be do to a poor match rev on my part.. smell just scares the shit out of me.

I also read that some people had an oil dripping onto the overpipe which causes a smell. I am not sure what the smell of burning oil is like.

In any event, thanks for the replies.. its giving me some piece of mind.
