It would be hard to ignore the racket. I also think it would more properly be a crushed exhaust.

If you hit the driveshaft on a speed bump, you have other issues.

Good thing I'm not getting paid for this.

It's just a suspiciously clean break. I would expect something more like this.

Now that is a failure from more torque than the drive shaft was designed for.

Yes, I know. I was posting more to show how aluminum usually bends and rips, not a perfect cut like a pipe cutter.

What?

Here is the response from DDS. It leaves a lot to be desired.

Good afternoon. We calculated the critical speed rating to be around 110-115mph. There are a couple of different options for moving forward. If you're interested in upgrading to the carbon fiber we can do that, Also, we can make a 3.5 inch aluminum shaft, but we'd just need to make sure that it clears everything under the car. let me know what you would like to do.

thank you

lol.

Sounds to me like they are claiming vibration from critical speed caused it to fail. Critical speed has been brought up as a reason for vibration in a thread before. Not exactly a confidence inspiring answer.

Edit: I messaged them talking shit. I absolutely don't feel comfortable with the one I have as a spare. Couldn't imagine if it failed on track suddenly like that.

Wikipedia reference, so take it for what it's worth:

All rotating shafts, even in the absence of external load, will deflect during rotation. The unbalanced mass of the rotating object causes deflection that will create resonant vibration at certain speeds, known as the critical speeds.

And

Many practical applications suggest as good practice that the maximum operating speed should not exceed 75% of the critical speed.

That's a shit critical speed for this car. I wonder what the carbon shaft speed is? Just as low?

The carbon shafts seem to fair better. Don’t know what the CS is. That’s math above my pay grade.
