Not for a few years realistically. Toyota is cutting new vehicle production by 40% because of the chip shortage. The twins filled a niche in the market that was open when they launched and were able to sell a decent amount because of it. Well they still exist so the pool of potential customers isn't as large. Many are paid off or on 2nd owners and the 2 gen isn't a massive step forward so they won't be traded in.. I would say look for a high mileage one but, mmh I wouldn't.

I recommend either BRZ or FR-S , 2014- 2016 , in the color /transmission you want. After that, looks out for :

*try and get a 1 owner car if possible
* if you can find a RS /monogram '14, or limited FRS/ BRZ , then great... at a price you're comfortable with
*high... high miles are a turn off, but if it's 5-6 years old, with 40-50k miles on it, that isn't bad.

** Too low of miles, they'll tend to want more money ... but cars are meant to be driven, so too low of miles can be a turn off. The inverse is also true... with high-high mileage . The sweet spot is say a '14 with 55-65k miles , or a '15 with 40-50k miles , or a '16 with 30-40k miles . You get the idea....

I have a 2016 FRS with 55,000 km on it. Before my lease was up I was talking with my dealership that I bought it new from, 2 years ago they offered $9000 Can for it. Just out of curiosity I got in touch a few weeks ago, and they offered $17,000 for it since they can't get any. I would have jumped on that deal, but haven't found anything to replace it yet.

I don't know anything about the used car market in Canada, but I'm actually surprised they offered you so little two years ago. I also think $17,000 CAD might be a little low now.

If I wasn't enjoying working-on and driving my FR-S right now, I'd be tempted to sell it and invest the money for a year so that I could buy a GR86.

I think that is the key, we will see in a year or two how aftermarket adoption picks up and how the FA24D likes mods.
