Car jerks to the left
So I bought a 2013 scion frs and about a week later I'm noticing when I'm driving down the road and steering left it jerks hard and traction control turns on hard af but when doing a very similar or same steering to the right it doesn't do it, neither does it do it when driving stait other then a sharper left turn, I figure I'm looking at some part related to steering to be replaced

Traction control jerks the car when you steer left.
Literally the easiest way to diagnose this is to bring it to a qualified mechanic, because if it's not throwing codes, there will be a need to drive the car and reproduce the issue with traction control live data on a scan tool to catch what's going wrong. It could be a wheel bearing, it could be a wss, it could be the steering angle sensor, it could be the yaw rate sensor, it could even be a super crooked alignment. |

Check tire pressures.
If not the tires, check alignment

A few questions to help narrow the possibilities down.
1. Are you doing anything other than steering when this happens? On the gas/brake? 2. Does this happen only in one place, or a bunch of different places? 3. How sharp to the left do you have to turn? Is this like a curve, or a turn onto another street? 4. What speeds does this happen at? 5. Does it happen if you turn TC off with the long press? (Only do this if you are sure this won't cause you to hit anything if you lose control of the car, TC and VSC could actually be doing the right thing) Last edited by Spuds; 09-03-2019 at 09:46 AM. The way I read it is that when OP jerks the car to the left the stability control kicks in early and when OP jerks it to the other side the stability control doesn't. Could be wrong though, their writing skills could do with a bit of work.

I wonder if it could be a stuck guide pin in the front left caliper? TC turns on but since that guide pin is not moving properly it would not engage properly. Without a wealth of info from the OP we cannot help. With such a generic description best advice is to take it to a mechanic who can diagnose it properly rather than let a bunch of jabronis on here take wild guesses like myself.

1. Gas or without gas it does it 2. It happens anywhere where I have some type of left turn 3. It happens on most curves and all left turns 4. Speed doesn't matter 5. I prefer to drive with TC off but when it's on traction control and I turn left on a curve or a actual turn it turns on hard af to counter the car yanking me to the left and with it off and I do the same it yanks to the left hard and I gotta be ready to counter it or it will probably yank you into a car or curb that's next to you |
