Sooo... on a related note (without going all political on my ass and pissing off Imp) what the hell is an "Obama Phone" anyway? Anybody?

I know more about you @FiReStorm2013 since I read your post of 02/08/2015 in the "Youngest BRZ/FRS" thread.

And I quote:

"24. Bought my car in late December. Put a $10,000 down payment (bank account currently at $11.07); money I'd saved up from substitute teaching the prior year. Traded in my 2006 camry that was originally a company car and passed down to me. Managed to get $7,750 for it! Currently paying $229 for 36 months with 1.9% APR. No way I'd be able to buy the car if I had to pay insurance, so my parent's gratefully put me on their policy. Still subbing, trying to get a permanent job.

Remember when you had a substitute teacher and would do whatever you want during class? Being on the flipside of that sucks. A shout-out to all the substitute teachers who I made their visit awful."

If you haven't already done so, I do hope you get a permanent job soon.

humfrz
LOL, all the grammatical and spelling errors are funny for a sub. At 24/25 you think you know everything when you know nothing. I thought I knew it all but by 25 I realized I knew nothing. Just the way it is.

Funny, the "Obamaphone" is actually a misnomer--the program was started under Bush II.

Back on topic, another "speculation" thread, brought to you by an OP who posts the rumors, and then doesn't really make any other contributions other than to outright insult some members, in direct violation of forum rules. @FiReStorm2013, Tcoat has been very diplomatic in not mashing that "report" button. Just a suggestion, but take your lumps and realize you went too far. Unless you were just looking for an argument/fight, in which case I smell a Ban Hammer in your near future.

I'm not sure why some people think an 8hp increase and a few ft/lb of torque is significant... I'd rather keep my own 2013 and just a tune will give me that increase :-)

I'd need more to tempt me to trade in for a new one.

Now if they built that great looking blue brz above on the other hand (and fi of course)... Mmmmm!

Well, I don't care about the HP increase, but the Gazoo Racing tuned chassis and ZF/Sachs suspension might be worth it.

Well, it's like this see.

I can buy an 86 right now, but I don't exactly *need* a car yet. My current schedule is still very manageable sharing the family's DD Corolla.

I will need it next year, so why wouldn't be getting a rumored slight torque increase, which the car somewhat needs, and a welcomed MPG increase be worth waiting for?

I just don't want buyer's remorse. Maybe the next gen looks 100x better to me as well. If the rumors remain rumors, I still don't lose anything. I still get a great car because every MY regardless if there's an "upgrade", there's still quality of life improvements like knee pads, ironing out issues from previous years, or even a back up camera.

Good things come to those who wait.

Fair enough... I was thinking more about the current model vs new one.
If I was buying new I'd probably do the same and wait a bit. Just not sure it would be worth trading in/up for.

2017 Model Year Improvements

Didn't the project lead for the 86 Come out with a statement saying that upgrades on any model year will be available for earlier models. Like how 2015 come with padded center console but they also fit the '13. Or how the backup camera is plug and play.

Imo I wouldn't hold off any longer than I financially had to. Upgraded model years be damned.😛

True, but there will also be exterior changes too that might be expensive to try and adapt to older models.

By the time you bought all the exterior, interior, and performance parts from the MY17 you would have probably spent more than if you had just waited for the new model.

I am still willing to pay for a 'Style CB' front end conversion kit.

Just to forward an alternative line of reasoning, the reason to just go ahead and by a used one now is because time spent contemplating which car to buy is time that could be spent enjoying the already amazing 86 as it exists. You don't need a car now, so you have the luxury of waiting, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't have a whole lot of fun with a used one in the next year, and the years beyond, regardless of what they announce.

To put it another way, choose what you want from what exists, don't spend your time worrying about what might be. Especially since most of the (albeit unreliable) info we have thus far seems to point to a fairly modest refresh.

Of course, just my 2 cents and YMMV...

i disagree strongly on this point. We think we know something is coming. It would be awful to buy used now and then have something you like better come out in a few months or even next year, but waiting if you can a year or so and making sure you don't miss out and then buying is no big deal and no real loss.

For the majority of people that buy this car will never track it and also won't mod it.
