N00b question - TRD
OK, I've seen reference to a lot of TRD options, TRD upgrades, etc. It seems like some of these were factory/dealer options and some were aftermarket upgrades. Is there a list anywhere of known packages and options offered under the TRD name?
The reason I ask is that the previous owner of my 2017 86 put TRD badges on the front fenders. I'm wondering if this was to indicate some TRD upgrades, or if they just thought it looked cool to put a TRD badge on the car. It did have a Borla exhaust that may have been dealer installed, but not sure. |

don't think dealers install third party parts for liability issues.
your guess would be as good as mine though as far as the badging goes. Some people would slap trd decals or emblems on their cars because they have TRD seat belt covers. Some people actually believe each decal/emblem is an easy +10hp gain. |

Official North American TRD parts are what are listed as options in the dealer "Build your car" sections. Any TRD parts added through other sources are not technically "official" here even though made for the car.
I would be very comfortable in saying they just slapped some badges on although there were some dealers that would add some options and then market the car as a special "TRD edition".

Springs are black, sway bars are black, air box looks stock with no TRD, exhaust was clearly marked Borla on the muffler. Looks like I have these fog lights, or some very similar https://www.sparksparts.com/accessor...70?parent=6225 I also have this spoiler, which I thought was stock... https://www.sparksparts.com/accessor...30?parent=6225 Last edited by pallen; 07-13-2020 at 02:41 PM. |

There's also a matter of TRD USA vs TRD Japan. The link provided earlier was for the TRD USA parts.
Here's a link for the TRD Japan parts: https://www.trdparts.jp/product/86/index.html |

Never seen the "motion control beam" concept before. Kind of skeptical on that one... |

If it was a TRD edition it would also have a bigass TRD on the back bumper of the car too.

Its also occurred to me that there could have been more TRD parts, but the previous owner sold them and put the car back stock to sell. |

Pretty much like you mentioned, they added TRD badges. "Performance" divisions of companies don't really mean much anymore. You got people throwing TRD badges on daily camrys, that TRD RAV4, TRD Truck, etc. For Toyota, I'm thinking the "real" performance badging would be the GRMN nowadays. Kind of like how back in the day big brake calipers were painted bright colors (red, yellow, etc.) nowadays everyone paints them red because performance yo.

That would be my guess. Had some TRD goodies on the car, and replaced back to stock before trading in. The previous owner of my FRS left the TRD lowering springs installed. Thanks man! That saved me $$ and time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
