You can get a 2016(current generation, previous ended '15) cararo 1lt which is the base model for $20,000. Its an Inline 4 with 275hp 2.0L engine normal aspiration. I don't know how they managed to made such little power on the FA 2.0L

I don't think there's anyone making a higher HP/L with NA under $60k right now...

As a recent 86 buyer, I had it down to a 370Z or a twin and went with a twin.
I'd much prefer a Z over a G. Lighter, sportier, etc. But I'm not looking for luxury. I liked the power of the Z, but the handling and visibility was lacking compared to the twins. It just felt heavy, but it was a contender . |

AMG CLA35 makes 302 hp from 2.0 liters. AMG CLA45 makes 382 hp from 2.0 liters. (peak boost of 30.5 psi, LOL). Both are under $60k MSRP

I mean the FA20 is the highest NA HP/L engine for an affordable price at 102.5 HP/l.

After that, most NA 2.0s are indeed pretty gutless, in the region of 150HP. Most are simply left in a low stressed, economy state of tune. On the plus side, due to being NA and low stressed, most will run for decades with basic maintenance. Turbo 2.0s are everywhere now, and they deliver the beans, but most sound absolutely horrible IMO. On performance versions in hot hatches and sportscars, gotta say I am not a fan of the raspy DSG farts, pops and bangs that so many car reviewers seem to get giddy over (Hyundai N cars, Golfs, Megane RS etc). I think they sound terrible, and flat, monotone engine notes interspersed with obnoxious farts, pops and bangs are no replacement for the mechanical song of a properly tuned NA 4 cylinder soaring smoothly into high revs. |

I wonder how long those highly stressed engines will last, especially if driven by the kind of cashed up boy racers and drug dealers that own them around here.

Just got it home Sunday morning at 4am... after leaving Friday @ ~ 4pm with a Trailer attached to my Frontier and getting to sellers place @ ~ 9am Saturday. The Paint isn't great on it (an okay inexpensive respray) but the body is in better shape than my FR-S was when I sold it... no dents whatsoever (along with no rust I can find)... battery is dead but was able to jump it to get it on/off the trailer and into my garage. Am ordering the battery I know and trust, which I've used in my Hondas/Acuras and the FR-S... Hawker Oddessy PC680(MJ)...
Averaged 15mpg with my Frontier towing close to 5k lbs, rented trailer weighed more than the MR2...at least it has electric brakes and I installed a nice electric brake controller (Redarc Tow Pro Elite... Aussies don't muck about!) in my Frontier... zero issues stopping the load, trailer and brake controller worked very well. The intake manifold spacer helped with low end torque... glad I have the extra low end grunt over stock (basically like having the next gear down... 6th was actually useable) Installed my Momo NOS Monte Carlo I've had forever and never installed in a vehicle other than testing in a Civic a long time ago...should not have used those screws though... I tried backing one out and the metal just deformed and no longer is a phillips head... yay...5 out of 6 is good enough for now... LOL Test fit the Recaro Sportster GT I was going to put in my Frontier... it's going in the MR2, need it to make steering wheel fully work (drop seating height to read most of the gauges)... will need to fab up mounts for it.
