Don't get me wrong... Germans know how to engineer their performance cars, but statistics show over-and-over again that these cars are high maintenance, ticking time bomb.

The only thing Toyota did was design the exterior, tuned their suspension and tweeked the handling dynamics. Everything else is all BMW, which is wrong... Especially if you're going to put a "Supra" nameplate on this, it should have been a pure Toyota from the get-go.

Conclusion: Another great performance car reinvented, but just not a Toyota Supra...

How do you KNOW this? Was it written somewhere?

The FT1 was designed in California by Toyota's design team. The exterior and interior reflect that design language. Just like Toyota will look to their parts bin for parts for a new Toyota model, they pulled from BMW's parts bin. They could have pulled from their Lexus parts bin, but I am guessing this was part of the contract with BMW, and it was also necessary considering the Supra is being built by BMW.

Do you know that they didn't co-develop the chassis, or any other part to the car? Does it matter that the MKIV used a German Getrag transmission? Does that make the MKIV less Japanese or a Supra? Is the McLaren F1 not a McLaren because BMW provided the engine? What about the new Aston Martin, or a Pagani, Pagani has used AMG engines? Is a Dodge 2500 not a Dodge because the engine is a Cummings provided motor? What about a Lotus or Atom?

I see the argument that this doesn't feel like a Supra because it is not a top of the line sports car that showcases Toyota's newest tech like Supras were in the past, but it isn't because Toyota no longer needs the Supra to do that. Lexus didn't exist like it does now. Lexus provides that platform now. Moreover, Toyota was wise to make a $50k car versus making a $75-100k car, which is what a new Supra would have cost. Maybe they shouldn't have used the Supra name, so people would like this car for what it is instead of what it is not, but they didn't.

Here's the answer that I already wrote on another thread that would put this argument to rest with simple logic.

Subaru was not going to do a 86/BRZ whether with Toyota or not. The end result feels more Toyota than Subaru.

BMW was going to do a new Z4 whether with Toyota or not. The end result feels almost entirely BMW.

This is probably the most truly insightful comment in this thread! Sort of summarizes the whole project.

It may not be relevant, but it's bothering me none the less. Especially since it hasn't once been mentioned.

BMW isn't building the car. Magna Steyr is. Basically a plant for hire and they've done some stellar vehicles in the past.

How did I miss that? All this time! So technically the German/Japanese branded car is assembled by a Canadian owned company. This is getting more complicated all the time.

But how many parts will be from Mexico, Brazil and China?

Stopped writing more to stay away from political baiting

Overall, I like the new Supra.

I like:
the body, front fender is a B- but almost everything else is great! i love the long front end, the side profile, the rear window, doors are dope, a beautiful looking car
he concept of the engine, straight six is dope, glad they kept that ideology.
I feel he aftermarket support should be vast for this vehicle.. its like the BRZ, in the way they built it feeling "incomplete", so ppl like us can "Complete" it in our own visions.
Seen videos of it driving, and honestly looks like a whole lot of fun to push. I like how Toyota brought ppl in to test drive and give feed back, thats dope
Headlighs

I dislike:
Duck Bill Spoiler... that has to go.
The engine and interior for the same reason.... BMW. I don't like that at all.. they could have put the 2JZ in there for all of that.
NO MANAUAL... are you serious!!!! #SaveTheManuals

Not as many as you would think. More likely from Germany, Ukraine, Spain and Italy. The German companies do not buy a whole lot from the non European countries. They have factories there but most make for the local or nearby domestic markets.
