Currently at sf Toyota... Hopefully they'll go forward with the tcm update. Went on a test drive with a tech and couldn't duplicate the issue...tech will be doing another test drive after they replace my cigarette lighter (broken tabs covered under warranty).

If they refuse to update the TCM for whatever reason, go to a different dealership and ONLY say you are dealing with idle fluctuation. Don't tell them about the transmission issues, it will probably confuse the hell out of them.

I went in with idle hunt TSB in hand, told them about what I was experiencing sans trans issue, then they looked in computer, said they indeed found TSB in database. 1 hour later, they flashed the TCM and haven't had an issue since!

As always, YMMV

Soulreapers got the right idea these stealerships honestly believe they know better than the owners so they want to try heavily diagnosing the issue first, you can tell them you have the issue described in the TSB and then they will have to follow that repair process.

The cigarette lighter that I came in originally for came in damaged. FML. So I basically had to come back another time for that - they won't let me install it myself. And yeah they "test drove" the car and apparently they didn't "see" any of the same issues I was experiencing (I call bullshit). All they said was they documented the test drive and will keep the Repair order open until I come back next time for the cigarette lighter.

For anyone with the BRZ in Canada, ask your dealership to look at bulletin SB.07.01.16 and reflash the TCM. Just as soulreapersteve said, the transmission talk confuses them... Now with the TCM reflashed, there have been absolutely no transmission issues. Feels like a brand new car!

USB!? You mean TSB, also this doesn't apply to 2013 cars however the tcm logic should honestly be flashable to older cars....

Anyone have access to the subaru TSBs? I see 16-96-15 which seems really similar:
TCM Reprogramming File Availability for Engine Idle RPM Fluctuation on 6AT- Equipped Models

This bulletin announces availability of reprogramming files for optimizing the Transmission Control Module (TCM) on all 2015 and some early-production 2016MY vehicles to control an engine idle speed fluctuation condition when in Park or Neutral. The cause is incorrect operation of a back-up program the TCM uses in the event of a turbine speed sensor problem. Affected vehicles may see a fluctuation of approximately 200 rpm (between 600 – 800 rpm idle speed).

I found this thread last night after stressing the hard shift for over year, and being told by three different Toyota dealers "it's a characteristic of the vehicle"

I took it in this morning for my key recall, and asked them to do the TSB reflash of the TCM, and fingers crossed, it seems good so far.

The transmission is shifting like it never shifted before, smooth and fast in manual mode, and almost unnoticeable in auto. I only drove about 6 miles since the reflash, but that included WOT starts up hill, shifting to 2 - 3- 4, straight line pulls up and down through 2, 3, 4, 3, 2 and upshifts out of hard corners.

I'm hoping this is it.

It's definitely it, I really wish Toyota would've just extended the TSB to others as well in fact the entire 2015 VIN range would probably do good with this TCM logic, the transmission shifts much better with it.
