They are lower, on gen 1 I was at 275, on gen 2 I am at 260-ish.

The new motor outputs more power so the gen 2 cooler probably would have been pretty darn good for gen 1 cars but its effectiveness in gen 2 is better than nothing but we're all still regularly exceeding 260F.

Integrated oil coolers like these more than anything, increase oil temps faster at cold start. If you look anywhere else in the world, they are actually called an oil heater. We're the only place that calls them a cooler. Strange.
Testing shows this style of liquid cooled oil coolers more stabilize temp spikes and 'help' control highs and lows. Since coolant temps are often ~200° or better, your delta to oil temp is horrible. That delta is what makes a cooler efficient at cooling. This is why if you REALLY want lower oil temps and better control, a thermostatically controlled remote oil cooler that takes advantage of much lower ambient airflow, is the way to do it. |

The forester OEM "cooler" is really more of an oil warmer. It helps engine oil get to operating temps more quickly, but the cooling effect of a tiny heat exchanger running 200F coolant through it is going to be minimal anyway, especially compared to an air-to-oil exchanger. |

As I understand it, oil to water heat transfer is better than oil to air transfer. Is there some way to estimate the size of an air cooler vs the size of a water cooler.
I have a JR dual rad. At my last event I was running the same oil temps as a guy that had an oil to air (I don't know what brand or size). |

Just throwing this out there, as I do:
If you’re doing limited HPDE usage, 20 minute sessions, 275F indicated oil temp with good synth 30wt is not that big a deal. IMO… |

You know that most of us would feel like we are having a colonoscopy (without anesthesia) if our oil temps got anywhere near 250*.

How many total miles do you have now? I hope that we both keep our cars and, down the road, compare notes with respect to seals, oil control solenoids,... stuff like that. I'd be just as interested to learn that I'm wrong. In general, the hotter stuff gets, the sooner it gives up. Coil packs, for instance. They're mounted to, and surrounded by the valve cover, Oil temp affects way more than rings & bearings.

edit: I mean it sounds like you're more invested in being right, than in rational consideration. It's fine as long as it's acknowledged. I've never seen numbers for the sump temp compared to post cooler temp. That would be interesting.
