I might go down this path yet. Do they drop the car much?

RCE Yellows advertise a 20mm drop, so about .8 inches.

Give RCE Yellows + Camber plates on stock strut's or Bilstein. Might need some small spacers but for the love of god don't do BC coils and 8K springs. Don't forget rear LCA's to dial out some of the rear camber.

*When a car corners, the weight of the car shifts to the outside wheels, which causes body roll as the outside springs compress from the extra load. *Racecars take corners a lot faster which results in more weight transfer so they need a higher spring rate so that the springs don't compress too much. *But... stiff springs result in a bumpy ride because they don't compress easily, so they don't compress enough to absorb bumps, as a result the entire car (and you and your passenger) will move up and down with the bumps in the road. * Racetracks are smooth, and racing drivers don't care about a bumpy ride, but you do. * an 8K spring compresses 1mm with every extra 8 kg of weight. OEM Rate is something like 4.5K. (anyone?) * A street/track compromise is around 6 or 7K and you will feel a noticeable increase in bumpiness. Side point: you should find a stiffly sprung twin in your area and ask for a ride, your mind will be made up once and for all. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk |

That wheel size/offset will work fine with lowering springs. FWIW I've run 245/40-17 on 17x9 +35 and 17x9 +37 wheels, and also 235/40-17 on 17x9 +40 wheels, with ~1.25" lower Swift lowering springs and Bilstein B8s (B6s would be fine as well). Works great on street and at the track. YOu don't need wheel spacers and you don't need rear lower control arms. You will want to get an alignment after lowering the car of course. You will probably also want to get some front front camber. I'm running Raceseng cascam plates. You might get by with offset upper front strut mounts (Pedders?). Regarding spring rates, stock are in the neighborhood of 3kg/mm. Swift Sport and RCE Yellow springs are quite a bit stiffer, but nowhere near 8kg/mm. Either will work great with Bilstein B6 and give a firmer ride but nicer ride quality (less harsh) than stock. |

If you really want coils, ST which is made by KW. Or Flex A's, CSG spec or standard. Or RCE SS1's.

I got about the 20mm advertised drop when I had them. I was also running 245/40R17s on 17X9et35 wheels.

I run Bilstein B8s and RSR superdown springs. The springs were the previous owners choice, but the struts were my addition. If going with lowering springs, you will want aftermarket gas struts to accommodate a drop lower than 1". Our stock struts are not built for springs too aggressive. My wheels are staggered at 18x8.5 +38 up front and 18x9.5 +45 in the rear. Tires are 245/35 and 255/35 without rubbing. I'm mounting Gram Lights next week that are 18x8.5 +45 all around. I will be adding whiteline camber bolts to add some negative camber if needed, but the offset and width should make it flush.

With Swift BRZ Sport springs lowered my car about 36mm, and the stock front struts had no bump travel left, partly due to the camber plates I have which sacrifice an additional ~15mm bump travel. The ride on the street was horrendous, every little bump was an EVENT! With Bilstein B8s (B6s should be same) there's plenty of bump travel, really transformed the car. Stock struts should be OK with more modest lowering (RCE springs = -20mm ish) and no camber plates. If you want to run lower than that and/or run camber plates, get the Bilsteins. If you have the coin get them anyway, they're a big improvement over stock! |
