I'm assuming it's something to do with the transponder chip? I used a heat gun to get it loosened enough to pull out of original so is it possible the heat was too much for it? I thought I used it very carefully as to not damage it but does anyone else have any ideas?

Edit: nevermind, people just posted in here so I'm not a total Asshole.
Yeah, sounds like you damaged the transponder to me. I don't think you should have heat gunned it. Rather, just cut up the plastic around it.

Oh well. You still have 2 more transponders. One in your second key and one in the valet key. That one is way easier to remove, by the way.

Yep. It was definitely a damaged chip. I finally found my valet key and cut that chip. The key is now fully functional and good looking ! Definitely worth it

have you actually tried?
after super long delay, i finally gave up my original flip key assembly and found a new one from china, couldn't locate it in eBay or anywhere else. at the end i have to destroy my OEM key to get the transponder and the guts out. this key build quality is really really good, and all 4 button works even panic button is not printed. i haven't put the toyota logo sticker to cover up screw hole on the picture

Looks good man... Quick question, and may regret it later for sounding like a NUB... BUT.. Where did ya'll get your key blanks cut at? I went to my local Lowe's and they told me that they don't cut car keys, and no other retail would either except the dealerships themselves? And then when I called a local locksmith, he told me to just take it to Lowe's........... Told him the situation, and he just told me to try another place..... So wondering if ya'll had some input. Thanks.

I got mine at Home Depot. They didn't have Scion mold but the Toyota one worked.

I took my keys to a local locksmith who cut them on a machine by hand rather than computerized like most of the ones today. He charged me $2.00 per key. They work perfectly.

i brought this one before, but the build quality definitely not the same if you ask me, the button icon is printed instead of molding, so i guess it will wear out over time, but the major issue to me is the button feel very loose after you put the key together, another minor disadvantage is most of the flip key from eBay or Amazon, the key blade orientation is "vertical", which is opposite to our standard key if you just lay flat on the table, so it's feel kinda unnatural to me, but maybe it is just me.

guys, please P.M. how many keys you want before Nov 18, i'll back to the state right before thanks giving, so you can expect i can have the key ship within two weeks after thanks giving. as for the cost, i'm gonna charge $17 including S/H per key, like i said, i'm not looking for making any profit for community here, but i really don't know what's the shipping cost from USPS. let's hope my account won't be banned...
