AT&T in my major suburb doesn't have backup power supplies for telephone towers.... my areas power has been out for two hours now and the whole time I haven't even been able to use my phones mobile data until I drove a few blocks away. Somehow only calls and SMS worked right at home. Outage is still going on. lol

Yes there is a pile of crap but that image is horribly deceiving. There are thousands of miles between each of those items so it is not the dense blanket that perspective makes it appear to be.

It's a representation. Of course it couldn't be 1:1 scale. If it's any consolation there are even more kilometers between them.

"The Kessler syndrome (also called the Kessler effect, collisional cascading, or ablation cascade), proposed by NASA scientist Donald J. Kessler in 1978, is a theoretical scenario in which the density of objects in low Earth orbit (LEO) due to space pollution is high enough that collisions between objects could cause a cascade in which each collision generates space debris that increases the likelihood of further collisions."
Wikipedia

"More than 27,000 pieces of orbital debris, or “space junk,” are tracked by the Department of Defense’s global Space Surveillance Network (SSN) sensors. Much more debris -- too small to be tracked, but large enough to threaten human spaceflight and robotic missions -- exists in the near-Earth space environment. Since both the debris and spacecraft are traveling at extremely high speeds (approximately 15,700 mph in low Earth orbit), an impact of even a tiny piece of orbital debris with a spacecraft could create big problems."

I didn't say you couldn't hit anything I said they are not the dense cloud that the depiction makes them look.
27,000 pieces? Spread through many different altitudes? There are 8 billion people on just the surface of the earth and it wouldn't appear that dense.
Some day there will be money to be made in gathering it all up and they will all disappear.

They've been talking about 'garbage collection' satellites of recent, but the current concept is that they latch onto a piece of large debris/defunct satellite, and the set up on a deteriorating orbit to burn up the hunk in the atmosphere.

I'm thinking that they can cover the front of the spacecraft with PPF or ceramic coat or both for good measure.. Just avoid 'touchless spacecraft washes'..

Next big topic for Greta and her friends.. Not sure how they can block space traffic...

I wonder if Ca. is banning backup generators because they are ICE? Lawn mowers are out if ICE. What are hospitals going to do to keep people alive in a power out?

portable generators, likely.

but mounted-in-place backup generators fall under emergency power, which is an entirely separate category.

i don't disagree about how much small engines pollute, but i'm really curious how it's going to affect cali's power grid, as well as the supply/demand of the batteries.

Yeah, and and look how often they smack into each other.

Yes since they are crammed into 10% of the earths surface. Spread them out and add thousands of miles of different heights to it and you may never see another person in your life much less run into one.
A lot of shit being said for the simple observation that the picture is deceiving!
