Is there a chance SUBI prices will go up to match soon?
Maybe Subi gambled that covid and supply chain issues would be gone for 2022? Toyota held off their pricing so long that they might be getting more accurate forecasting and betting 2022 will remain challenging. (Just a pessimist's thought on a possible scenario.)

That was my thinking as well... I suspect BRZ pricing will come up to match Toyota's and not the other way around. Maybe time to get that BRZ order placed (but like others, I do like the Neptune... grrr... ) |

IIRC the BRZ has always been lower than the Toyota variant but not as much as the 2022 is.
Excluding the initial Scion release, which IIRC was lower than the BRZ. |

Gen 1 Toyota 86 (2017+) pricing was similarly higher than BRZ prices.
If I'm not mistaken, I think Scion FR-S pricing was either similar or below BRZ pricing. |

That said, Scion technically doesn't allow haggling, so there was a better chance you could get the BRZ for less than the Scions. I know there were some Scion dealers that did break the no haggle rule, but officially they weren't supposed to. |

The Scion FR-S was $26,495 + frt, pdi, & tax in 2012. My OTD cost was at or close to $31,500.
At the same time, ordering a base BRZ was $1,300 more at $27,795. + For the difference, Subaru included the auto leveling HIDs, radio with navigation, and a security alarm.

I'll happily pay $2000 to have all the Subaru badges hidden.

GR86 base MT 24 month lease, 20k km/year: $774/mo taxes included Would I pay 65% more for essentially the same car? Hell no. I went with the BRZ. |

Or if you are leasing don't get the base, drive the car on the better summer tires for the time you can and really enjoy it.

Based on what I know, Toyota is marking up because... they're Toyota and they are doing the heavy lifting with the marketing for this car. Subaru has done very little.
Toyota also claims they are doing more value add in the ownership phase to kick off the Gazoo Racing brand with track experiences and such. That's what the company line is anyways. For someone who already tracks or engages in motorsport, I don't need anyone profiting off costs that I was going to bear directly anyways. So it made no sense for me to go with Toyota even though I wanted to. The markup is over $3,500 which pays for a lot of seat time, wheels, tires, etc. Yeah, I don't care whose badge is on it.

By a happy chance I stumbled on the price and financial conditions of Subaru and it made way more sense. The difference was significant enough to have me just accept that I will have the Subaru's looks wich is very fine. To me the BRZ is a second fun car to track and use a bit when I feel like, the lower the cost the better. 36mths/48k km lease at 475$/month taxes included seems pretty good to me for a brand new fun car. 36mths goes fast, I will see if I pick another one or upgrade afterwards. |

someone in the Canadian 86/frs/brz group posted that he managed to score 1.9% financing for his 2022.
Found out the Toyota ducktail is different from the JDM GR aero ducktail it ain't worth the 2k markup lol (even if it was the same as the JDM one it still wouldn't be worth the 2k markup!)

Everybody keep in mind that Toyota actually buys these cars from Subaru. Every change in a production car costs money even though they go down the same line so the extra charge may be as simple as Toyota covering these added fees.
Scion was able to sell the FRS lower because of their whole business model which kept many of the costs down. All of the models they converted to the Toyota badge went up significantly when they lost those advantages.
