Yesterday I helped my buddy replace the sparkplugs in his 2015 WRX. This wasn't exactly my FR-S, but it's close enough since it also has the FA20 with a few minor differences. This goofball was still running the original plugs at 95,000 miles. I guess he didn't get the memo that they're supposed to be replaced every 60k...
I managed to do it without jacking up the engine and only got one bent fingernail and two bloody knuckles. To be honest the FA20 in the WRX sits up a bit higher than the FA20 in the FR-S/BRZ/86 (probably due to the AWD system), so that's probably why lifting the engine wasn't required. It was good practice for when I have to replace my sparkplugs in about 9,500 miles. |

While you are at it, shield your battery too.

It does look classier. Makes you wonder why it was in 2 pieces originally.

Access panels or holes would probably comprise the rigidity of the front of the car. I haven't looked at my engine in a while, but from what I remember the cylinder heads are right in line with the frame rails, whereas on my friend's WRX the engine sits up an inch or two higher, making the sparkplugs easier to access. I know it's possible to change them without lifting the engine, but unbolting the engine mounts is as simple as removing two nuts, then you're free to lift the engine a few inches for easier access. This is probably the route I'll take for less cursing and fewer bloody knuckles. |

I added a drop light with 6 foot cord that is fused and has a switch. It is a small strip of LEDs that I put in a piece of 1/2 pex tube. I can look under hood, under the car, and waive it around if I need help. (let's hope I don't)
And, NO its not on while I'm driving.

Sure, I used a cord like pictured below. So, you would have to pop the hood, turn the light on, shut the hood, and then drive around. The light will stay on till you spin the switch again. Shutting the car off won't shut the light off.
I thought about wiring it to a pressure switch, so it would turn on if the hood opened. But flipping the switch is easy, so I wired it with a standard switch instead.

Dropped 10 Series off with Cadillac dealership bodyshop to fix a ding (PDR) and a scratch from some Hyundai owner suddenly losing a part from his POS on the Long Island Expressway.
