Welcome to the forum.

They will poke a bit. About the same as 18x9+35. 225/40 would work good on stock. Get camber bolts. With +30 offset wheels, you will have room to add camber in the front with stock springs and lowering springs. (If you decide to get some)

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I know the RCE yellows/stock shocks make things more difficult...

I ended up being able to measure clearance before the weekend. Looks like I have 12.5mm of space to the springs with the stock 17x7 ET48 wheels. Going to ET42/17x9 is going to result in about 7mm of interference with my current setup. I'd need to put about +2 deg of camber at the bolts to get it to clear - but I only have about 0.8 left in the plates - so that would be a 1.2 deg camber loss (would go from about -3.3 to -2.1). So... ET42 is not going to work for me without spacers - and I'd rather not have to run spacers.

ET35 means there is ~0 clearance but it should just fit - I can remove a bit of camber at the bolts to give some margin and have a little adjustment left on the camber plates... Will probably go that route...

A 255 tire (R888R) is the widest I've fit and I can barely pass a credit card between the tire and strut but 245 tires had about 5mm clearance. Considering your wheels have 7mm less inner clearance to the spring but you are running a less wide tire, I'd say it will fit with the camber you want. Its going to be tight, but should fit (im assuming you are running coilovers with relatively narrow spring diameter, meaning linear springs not progressive like some coilovers have).

Edit: just saw you say you have RCE yellows, on stock shocks, so Im not sure its going to fit with that much camber after all then. Maybe at -3 it will fit, but not much more past that.

Hello everyone, I have a 2017 86 with TRD lowering springs.

I'm very close to ordering:

18" Work emotion kiwami wheels with a 38mm offset and 235/40/18 tires.

Will this work with the TRD springs without rubbing? I checked the wheel fitment thread but only saw that this setup would work with coilovers. I don't know if it will work with TRD springs.

I have 18x9.5 square set up with 245/40/18 and it barely cleared the spring perch on stock suspension. You will need to get coilovers once you lover it, because your car will gain camber once it lowered. It will rub.

Thank you so much for your quick response. It sucks to realize that I wasted money on TRD springs when what I really needed were coilovers..I don't see myself getting coils anytime soon, maybe in a year or two.

How about 17x9 wheels with a 35mm offset and 235/40/17

Or 18x7.5 with 35mm offset and 225/40/17.

Would spacers help the work emotion kiwami fit on lowering springs? This is so frustrating, I won't change wheels if there is no real upgrade in looks/grip (I know grip depends more on tire compoudthan width).

Edit: also, this guy say 18x8.5 and 225/40/17 will fit but I'm not sure.

Thank you, just to be clear, you meant:
17x9 +35 and 235/40/17
18x7.5 +35 (or +38) and 225/40/18

will fit on trd lowering springs? I might just get the work emotion kiwami wheels in 7.5 size and +38 offset instead of 8.5 in that case so I can fit the 225/40/18s a little better.

I don’t really plan on tracking or autocrossing too much or anything, it’s mainly just for daily driving where I don’t really need too much width.

Only thing that sucks is the 18x8.5 and 18x7.5 work emotion wheels are the same price.

How wide can I go without rubbing?
stock BRZ tS. 17x9 35 offset. Right now runnig 235/45/17 but it looks like I have a lot extra space.
245? 255? 265?
Would have I have to lower to 40 side wall?

I ran 245/45, 245/40 stock dampers and was really close to the spring perch, with maxed out camber bolts, super down drop springs. Then ran 255/40 with coilovers on the same wheels, but now I'm on 18x9.5 and at 265/35.

Will 225/45R17 tires fit properly in the wheel wells and will the speedometer need to be recalibrated for it?

Yes, no.

It's possible to fit much larger tires.

By silent manufacturer convention speedos for all non retro cars lie. With slightly larger tires it will lie a bit less .

Thanks for the info. For the distant but inevitable future I put a turbocharger in my future 86. Will 225/45R17 be sufficient? Because the first thing I might buy when I get an 86 next summer are these rims in 17x8 and these tires in 225/45R17.

"Depends".

How you will drive? DD or track or autox?
Will you go for built engine/high boost/lots of power? Then i'd probably look for wider tires. Though going for much wider tires may ask for wider wheels too.
For NA build or mild boost 225/45/R17 might be ok. Of grippier tire model then stock primacies though.
