1) short piping
2) no crazy wait time ( i think)
3) great customer service
4) offer a "race" crash beam which is cool ( now let me see you people get butt hurt)

If anyone can point me in the direction of a kit that has WAIC, rear/bottom mount gtx28 with a mechanical pump with a pressure gauge inline, includes a manifold, and doesn't end up costing nearly 10k in the end, I'm all game.
There is a local fairly famous GTR/Subaru shop and he has a WAIC (usually more commonly known as AWIC here) GT30 setup making a lot of power, but I haven't seen it and don't know where he mounted the AWIC... I have the JDL kit now but the exact setup you mention is really what I'd be more interested in. If you had a setup like the Accelerated kit which ran the IC pipe along the passenger side you could probably fit a barrel style core right off the turbo in the engine bay, but those are typically not good for much HP. AWIC has its own shortcoming as well, you can heat soak the whole system and it's useless. I have a core and heat exchanger from my WRX, but looking at the core I don't see how I could make it work, it would have to be mounted in front of the engine somehow.

The pump is easy, AVO is using the OEM pump off the FA20DIT engine which bolts right onto our engine, the cams already have the gears to turn it. They just made a custom adapter plate so have normal inlet/outlet fittings instead of using the OEM Subaru piping. The pump is like $85.

Have IAT's been the issue?? I feel like engine cooling (oil & water temps) have been the major concern. I don't recall seeing much in the way of IAT's getting unacceptably high...

The headache involved with designing and implementing a one-off AWIC seems like it may be engineering a solution to a problem that doesn't exist (assuming IAT's haven't proven to be a common problem). You'd be better off spending that energy on water/oil cooling solutions.

People don't use AWICs because they have IAT issues, they use them because they want cooler IATs overall and for packaging reasons. I used one on my WRX as well as a TMIC and FMIC, but the car was for a specific use which was autocross. Daily commuting in traffic and track days don't work so well, the water heat soaks and is very poor at shedding the heat. I'm interested to see how it's worked out for the local guy who is running one, like I said they are a well known tuner and don't typically do dumb things to cars.

Awesome! Won't be around until August, but will definitely look you up!

I also have some other questions about your operation, I'll save that for PM/in person.

Why don't more kits use Borg Warners?
