This, I am curious. I had a '13 1LE. It was great, but I still preferred the feel of my S2000 and BRZs. I love the idea of the new 1LE, and I have driven a new SS spiritedly, but I haven't had the pleasure of driving a new 1LE.
Still, as impressive as the Camaro is in the corners for its size, 2800lbs still feels much better and is more fun (to me) than 3500+lbs. Maybe in a few years I can get a used 1LE and strip it. But the Camaro still feels damn big, even if it is made lighter. Plus on my local 1.8 mile track, a lot of the HP is not as useable.

For 80K I would absolutely be dropping off a base trim C7 Grand Sport at Vengeance for heads/cam/tune.

Too twitchy from the short wheelbase, ugly appearance, and definitely way too expensive. Give me an LS swapped twin or 240, or just a regular corvette any day. |

After I built the S2000, I was planning to keep it with the 1LE then I figured that I won't be driving the S2000 as much after I get the 1LE. I figured that I wouldn't be driving the (I don't want to say "lesser" let's say) slower car that much. I have too many cars in the household (with the SUV and the electric car). 1LE is definitely a lot better road car since both my S2000 and BRZ were loud after the mods, as I was trying to squeeze the last HP out of them reliably. With the 1LE I have no such concern about the power and the grip is insane for something that only costs $45k . I had a couple little issues with the 1LE but other than that it was blast to drive. I really like lighter cars also Miata, BRZ , S2000s are all special cars but wish they had some more power. If the BRZ had an S2000 engine it would be the best of both worlds but that car doesn't exist :/ They also require good amount of modifications to run safely at track. My Stock Camaro SS 1LE put 419whp/413 wtq on dynojet and I asked Bob from Drift office to put it against my Rotrex BRZ. You can literally fit a Stage 2 Evo in that gap

ORP is also very twisty with a lot of elevation changes where I would expect to see some disadvantage of a heavier car but it didn't feel like it I was definitely in your shoes until very recently but it changed my mind. I believe after a few more events I will get more confidence and the gap will be even higher. The steering feel and the new shifter and the e-diff is simply amazing, it's very easy to rotate and can put the power way easier than my C6 Grandsport. Unlike the GS, it's easier to catch a slide. I hope that helps.

Only other good handling is miata newest one, rx7 2nd gen and some pricey Porsche for me.
I drove 2016 Cam. Feels bulky and like a school bus with tons of hp. Not my cup of tea.

Well it's a >50 year old recipe.
Stating the obvious, but Chevy learned their lesson when they missed the boat the first time and now lets anybody use their powertrains which are awesome in terms of power density when you want 400+ hp. |
