I'm afraid to say anymore. Don't want humfrz stumbling into it. We would never hear from him again.

Mostly good. Some ups and downs but pretty much typical things any puppy deals with. Good times, crazy times. Lots of zoomies. Etc.

He had one parasite, we don't know if it's from the breeder he came from or when I took him on the grass at my apartment complex.

Coccidia I believe is the name. So I've had him on meds for that since Friday and have about a week or so to go. Nightly liquid "injection" into his mouth.

Honestly I kinda got to a point where I felt like I was posting "too much" and getting certain feedback I wasn't asking for or getting it in ways where it was assumed I wasn't doing stuff right. I'm sure that's not exactly the case but I felt like here and elsewhere I had to take a bit of a break with the oversharing.

As mentioned before, Haru's mostly doing well. I'm super tired but that's to be expected too, lol.

On the 2nd shots visit to the vet, I got some really bad news/advice such that once the already-paid-for shots are over I'll probably look for a different vet to bring him to.

Basically, the vet said Haru shows lots of aggression in the form of being bitey/nippy especially when they were administering the shots and it's crucial I bring him to a specific behaviorist doctor that he referred. He also said Haru kept screaming at them.

But like... first of all at that point he was a 10 week old puppy. Puppies bite/nip because they use their mouths to learn and stuff. It's pretty normal.

And secondly, shibas scream. It's basically their thing. They're very vocal dogs and don't do normal "barks" like most dogs.

It sucks because the person who referred me to that clinic has a shiba and has had a good experience, so I figured they knew the breed well enough, but apparently not?

I've been working a lot with Haru and while he does sometimes get a bit bitey if I'm fumbling with his collar or putting on/taking off the leash, it's not that bad. Usually I can give him a treat or kibble to keep him occupied and he'll be fine.

And yeah he bites a lot at times, especially during zoomies, but 60% or so of the time I can get him to redirect the biting/chewing to toys instead.

He knows the sit command pretty well and mostly does it when I ask except when he's very excited and distracted by something. He also "knows" down but always requires some coaxing with treats, lol.

Anyway, I'm mostly good. Just been crazy occupied by him + work and needed some time off of some stuff :P.

Another social media site. Honestly I wasn't initially planning to make him one but the local shiba group owners mostly use them and I figured it's a good way to keep in touch with them plus his littermates without handing out my phone number to literally everyone.

Haru photos update:

Ping pong ball didn't last long. He loved playing with it more than the actual dog chew ball Chuck-its I've bought him.. But then he started actually chomping on it, which punctured the shell like an egg, which of course is dangerous. Had to take it away before he would hurt himself.

He is a cutie. I know nothing about shibas, but have worked with a couple of malamutes, a couple of GSDs, a sloppy friendly lab mix, and listened to my son who has spent a LOT of time training his GSD, I've concluded the one attribute that is indispensable is patience.

Become a Buddhist for a year or so. Hell, maybe Buddhist monks test their novices by making them raise Shibas.

Shibas are pretty wild. They're one of the more primitive breeds. But they're also crazy smart and independent. They learn quickly but they can be tricky. Haru has already tricked me a few times. For instance he'll lie down in the playpen like he's starting to fall asleep, I open the door, and then he sprints out and runs around having fun.

But I did know this before getting him. Just means I need a lot of patience lol.

For some reason, this is giving me "Planet of the Apes" vibes, but instead of apes, it's Shibas, though I wouldn't be complaining about that as well.

Mika has an obsession with horses, and not just their manure. Almost every day he stares me down until I take him to a nearby neighbor's pasture.

Soon after we arrived the big white stallion in the background came trotting over to check on his mares.

The smoke and haze in the distance is from the Bootleg fire, the biggest in Oregon history and the largest in the US this season. It's about 350 miles to the southeast, burned an area over half the size of Rhode Island and is 40% contained in one of the most remote parts of the western US.

A suggestion based on my experience with Mika when he was four months old. He, too, would sprint out of his x-pen when I opened the gate. One time he caught a paw in the short gap between the wires below the gate and cracked a toe. Luckily it wasn't a clean break that would've required surgery and months in a cast but he still wound up in a splint for a month.

I used a double layer of painter's tape to close the gap, nothing fancy, but it worked and he didn't eat it.

That's a great point. I don't really love how there are wires like that below the gate, Haru has definitely hit his leg/paw on them when hopping out before.

I don't have painters tape but I have some blue, sort of duct tape but not duct tape, that I can try, maybe.

the main advantage to painters tape is that it will come off without leaving residue.

but you know what that means.

HOME DEPOT TRIP!!!!!
