The guy who schools me puts them at 35.
Depends on the car's weight. On my old e92 M3 I would destroy the Yoko's if I ran any pressure below 30. 33-35 was my sweet spot on that car just from a tire wear perspective. On this chassis with its much lighter weight 28-30 hot would probably be fine. I personally wouldn't go below 28psi, but test and play with it. Make big changes so its more noticeable. And make one change at a time so you can track what is actually making a difference with the car.

Where is your understeer? Mid corner? Corner entry? Exit?
This is a good simple guide on things to adjust with setup depending on how your car is behaving. https://drivingfast.net/understeer/

One thing to keep in mind is that 28 psi on my gauge might be 26 psi or 30 psi on someone else's gauge. So don't marry a number you got from someone else.

With that said, 35 does seem high.

I I wasn’t running 35 I was a bit lower at 33, but the guy that routinely kicks my but uses 35, and does not have LCA for camber. True about the gage, I should check mine against someone else’s, not sure about when understeer comes in, I think more mid corner , maybe late corner entry, .My history has been going into corners too hot, but I have improved on that.
I appreciate everyone’s input. I will read the link after dinner.

Just because the guy that beats you uses 35psi doesn't mean you need to run 35psi, especially when you two don't have the exact same setup. Your front end is probably too stiff for where you run

It is really hard to comment much without video.

I think the toe in is a big deal. I've ran pressures around 32 or so and thought the car was fine. The 400 lb front setup isn't inherently pushy and neither is running a 22mm bar on soft. Same for -3.5 degrees camber.

We haven't really spoken of coilover adjustments or rear bar.

When will the GR86 be available? Will it make it to STX?

August this year is supposed to be the official launch. My guess is in dealers by December.

My money is on yes for STX. My money is also on a 4.3 rear end.

I won't put money on it, but I think it'll be faster assuming you can get the third gear stuff right. That's really not enjoyable at an autocross though (it's additional opportunities for strategy or execution mistakes), so I'm loathe to try.

Brand new cars don't typically go into ST their first year, I think the old chassis (and RX8) is safe for '22 but the new chassis may go in for '23 or '24. STX participation is still solid so I don't think there will be a rush to throw an 'overdog' into the mix that's still under bumper-to-bumper warranty.

With the added speed it might open up the opportunity to pick up some STR/STU backmarkers as well, E36 M3 and S2000 come to mind as good cars that are affordable and not really competitively classed currently. Maybe the NC Miata too.

Agreed the 2.4L torque will help the car a ton, some good drivers will be able to do the 2-3-2 shift seamlessly and we already know if Subaru is on their game the valvetrain can handle 8k rpm to mitigate the stunted gearing.

Between COVID last year and not being able to get tires this year, the 2.4 car going to STX next year would be a real cherry on top of my STX build failure sundae.

I think we'll get another year or two of current car STX. By then my car will either be a full-blown crazy TT car with a motor swap or I'll be buying the new car and figuring out how many of my current parts I can maximize swapping over. Either way, I agree '23-24 at the earliest.

The conversation I've heard is STR the first year so they don't upset the STX applecart, which makes sense. If it does got to STX I'll (reluctantly) buy one since I suspect all the fun (read:expensive) parts swap over.

If you do it all the time you get better at it.

Any chance for different gearing between the BRZ and 86?

$5 says everything except the header and tune bolts up to the new car and you can probably sell the header to someone and get at least half your money back. Doubt they'll change the chassis enough to warrant more then a spring change and a few clicks on the dampers.

Edit: above looks like clickbait with zero substance. More likely they were later to finalize the bumper covers or have tweaked springs and dampers again like the first two years. Every delta between the two costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, doubt they'd waste that on a one off transmission that nobody will notice.

I'm 110% not buying a new one.
