Valve float after valve spring recall
Has anyone experienced any valve float after the valve spring recall ?
What are the major symptoms of valve float and how would it present ? Having some strange issue with my Brz that is happening when the car is under full acceleration near redline, about 6k rpm my exhaust begins to sound like a blown speaker , or a bumble bee and I will feel restricted in power . Current mods Jrsc Ace headers, 421 Nvidia high flow cat Greddy exhaust I have tried swapping out high flow cat and exhaust to rule out exhaust damage or exhaust leak and still does the same . Sent data logs over to delicious tune and they sent me a revision , the revision made the car run rough and when nearing the redline it popped cell for misfire in cylinder 2, prior to this the Zack tune from delicious never popped a cell but was doing the sound after 6.2k rpm. Bill from delicious shared it could possible be fuel related as fuel is trying to be sent by ecu "Looks to be a fuel pressure issue, because the ECU will try to correct but maxes out on the correction it can do. " I have ignition coils that I've been sitting on just haven't got to and the car is obviously a 13' due to recall , she has about 75 k miles . My boy is gonna help me with the coil install and possibly a fuel pump next .... just depends what data logs are showing after the coils and if coils fixed issues . Sound recordings I've done are difficult to hear but the closest sound I've found that is similar on vids is of this video on you tube at about 10 seconds in ..... Wanted to see thoughts or ideas ¯\(°_o)/¯ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Did the change plugs with the recall? Could it be bad plugs/blowing out spark?
Have you checked for boost leaks? |

The plugs were changed at the time of recall so we're going to pull them while working to re-change the coils and look at them again and I did visual examination of boost leak but not under any compression terms Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Back in the day, when an engine had valve float, there was a loss of power. If a valve floated real bad and the piston head hit the valve - you knew it - ![]() humfrz |

You think it's a possibility that they were t adjusted properly and is causing this ? Spoke with tuner again and he felt that a valve float would appear different on the data logs in comparison to what I'm having in terms of symptoms .... crossing my fingers the coils are the issue ..... However, valve float is usually because the valve spring is too weak to return the valve back to the closed position in time. I would think that if your problem is due to a bad coil(s), the engine would give you a trouble code(s). Maybe it is a fuel issue? - ![]() humfrz |
