Watched the video and looked easy enough and hey, it's only 10* out without a garage, what's the worst that can happen?

Note: in the video, after he takes the 4 bolts off the center console (two under cupholder pad, 2 under shifter surround), he just says "pull here and everything comes out, including the tray and USB."

NO. That's NOT how it worked in my '15 FRS. I pulled, pulled and pulled more.

There are 2 more screws in the middle stack that you won't see with the console tray still there. You have to remove the bottom cubby and usb plug 1st to be able to pull out the tray and surround to get to those 2 screws.

Once I got that panel off, install went off without a hitch for the most part. I got the stereo from crutchfield and thought I had the proper harnesses. I unplugged three of them from the OEM HU, but only had 2 harnesses for the new radio. So, I had to spend some time researching... the 28 pin connector that was removed from the OEM radio... doesn't get plugged back into anything.

It's the steering wheel controls. 15 FRS doesn't have them. But... they're wired already! So, yeah, that was a long while wondering what I'm missing, which was literally, nothing.

Sound quality sounds better and clearer than the OEM unit. Easy to navigate and use. Like the EQ to tune it a little better too.

Also, the kit had two filler side black things that attach to the side of the HU to fill the side gaps in the center stack. You have to dremel out (it's even in the instructions) some of the plastic to allow it to fit over the OEM metal brackets. Because it's also cold in the barn, I broke a side after cutting and attaching. Plastic is a bit more brittle in the cold. Whodathunkit.

How's the fitment on the MVH-2300NEX? Would you mind taking some pics? Still happy with it now that it's been a bit?

Just hooked up my 2300NEX for the first time yesterday. I'd forgotten what a responsive head unit felt like. I'm still working out some issues and missing a few parts to finalize everything (steering wheel controls and USB support still missing as I don't have the wiring for those done, and I'm trying to figure out the rear view camera) but the head unit itself is pretty awesome.

I ended up with the housing insert instead of the entire dash replacement, but I'm going to hold off on putting all of the trim back on until I get the wiring stuff figured out - I'll just live with an unassembled dash for now. Once I get the wiring all set, then I'll tweak the fit and final placement of everything, but I figure that'll be the easy part. (famous last words)

Backup cam is just RCA right? Does it not have an input for that? I tried reading through the manual and it made it sound like it could handle it. Maybe I misread.

Do you need a special harness for the USB?

Allegedly the backup cam is the RCA and then you join the reverse signal wires from the adapter harness to the Pioneer wiring. In theory that's what it should be.

As to the USB, I initially had the idea to just run a 6 ft Lightning cable, but upon further thought I figured it would be nice to retain the USB port functionality already in the car, so I've got the AX-SUBUSB2 adapter on order.

@Flash02 Maybe I missed the answer to this question, but will this fit a MY2016 as well? I wasn't sure if 16 and 17 were exactly the same dimensions or not. It looks like a nice product. Equally as fed up with OEM as everyone else I'd say.

No can do. I totaled the car a couple weeks ago, but I got the stereo out to go in my '14 BRZ that I bought today... it'll be installed in that car next and I'll take pics.

I first saw posts about the ddx917ws from here using a google search but I bought it for 680 shipping. Ebay seller is the same people as Fasmoto and they got it to me in less than four days from Malaysia. Everyone that’s been in my car thinks it’s oem save for it saying Kenwood on it. Just in case you’re interested.

Is that Eq just graphic? Does it allow any type of parametric mode?

Does the head unit have to mount right in the center? I figure if there was a way to avoid that, by now someone would have made a kit to go along with the sinlge piece dash that moves the double-din stereo unit to the left, and gives you a little storage cubby on the right.

It's from Malaysia, so it's region locked for DVDs, but I never planned to watch DVDs on it, so that was a moot point for me. Also, I see there are sites that have the 9704 for $500~ so, . The 917WS was totally worth it for me, I love the fitment.
This looks nice!!!! How did you get the 2013-2016 rectangle looking trash trim for the HU?

It's the 2017 Canadian one piece dash trim, and mine specifically is from the Inazuma edition. This is the thread about them.

Only one I've found in this category that's parametric is the Alpine iLX-207. I suppose the iLX-107 may be but it's Apple integration only so I haven't paid attention. 9 band, and I believe front and rear can be done separately. The down side is you can't find it as cheap as the Pioneer... I keep hoping it goes on sale or something...
