Does not surprise me at all. Gives them something to add for the 2023. I bet we'll get a Brembo option in 2023 too, then a 2024 w/Brembo + Recaro.

In terms of the second gen im surprised they removed them completely, i thought for sure they'd at least have them in the limited trim. |

I wouldn't be surprised if the new engine is underrated a little bit. This is some very rough math, but it makes sense if you think about it. The 2.0L made 200hp with 12.5-1 compression, so why wouldn't the 2.4L make 240hp with the same compression and all the other upgrades done to the engine and exhaust? It's essentially the same engine, but upgraded with 20% more displacement. Why wouldn't it make 20% more power? I know that's not the only thing that goes into it, but with the dyno readings and everyone saying how much faster it feels, it only makes sense.

Same old same old. GR86 is more tail happy. Automatic is fine. Plus we get more official performance metrics too. |

https://www.motortrend.com/news/2022...s-cons-review/ I think they had a GR86 in manual and BRZ in automatic. The GR86 article doesn't mention an automatic. Maybe it came down to what they could get. Maybe Subaru had both, but Toyota didn't have an automatic. So they chose based on that so they could test them against one another.. |

Heres my quick first impressions
So i went over to the Subaru dealer that had a 22 BRZ in the showroom and got to check it out (it was sold, and didnt get to drive it)
It was a base model and black. And this comparing it with the 2020 86 GT (so refreshed model, with the granluxe trim material and the dual HVAC interior) Whoever described it as "feels like a refined first gen" is spot on. To me the car just felt...newer. -Looks good on the outside, the 17"s look good on it. -Inside felt very familiar, and the ambience is....more refined. The kind of tacked together look of the interior in regards to lines and the screen and whatnot when seen in pictures...didnt present itself like that in person. nothing really felt tacked together. Everything was just in the right spot. -Everything just felt tighter. I could attribute some of this to being brand new cuz then it might feel differently after owning it for awhile, but i think its also materials used and tolerances. -Materials was fine. The upper portion of the dash soft touch material i think was some different material than the rubbery stuff used in the first gen. And it was only on the upper portion above the center vents, whereas the first gen was all top and the face of the dash (then depending on year and model it also had a big long plastic panel, leather panel or granluxe panel). The hard plastic bits in the same areas felt the same, but there were some plastic bits that felt a little less cheapy, maybe due to graining used in those ones. -The seats felt wider. Specifically the upper portion. They're pretty similiar otherwise. -I forgot to check the kneepads, probably cuz my knees dont come close to hitting them in my 86. -The switchgear felt better. HVAC knobs still felt plasticky, but they have a more tighter clickiness as you rotate. (the first gen dual HVAC knobs just kind of rotate freely with some resistance). The toggle switches are kind of what i suspected, they are more "button" like than the toggles in the first gen (which is...flimsy in comparison. I guess the best way to describe it is you press down on a plastic "lever" and that lever hits a button behind it that activates the function, the second gen is pretty much like the heated seat button...its a thin button that clicks when you turn it on or off). The knobs are much bigger and easier to reach, and the toggles are bigger too and might have been positioned slightly easier to reach. -The armrest is nice to have...but ive been resting my arm mainly on the e-brake which is the same height as the armrest so it didnt really change anything to me. -The door panel....without that grab handle it felt a little....empty. theres more soft touch plastic used though. In the first gen its just the upper door and the main armrest. The rest are various levels of hard plastic. In the 2nd gen, theres some soft touch plastic panel near the window switches in addition to the upper door and the armrest. The upper door used some soft plastic or vinyl material, but it didnt cover as much as the first gen. my granluxe upper door padding covered a bit more of the door (its longer) But yeah overall the car just felt tighter, more refined and more modern. Its one of those instances where if you had to pick between a first gen and a second gen, then just get the second gen. |

I was gonna put this in the troll thread but it is relevant to this. I just really, really, hate this guy. But for the kids who find him hip and cool this might be useful....

But yes, there are at least two categories of car Youtubers. You have Tavarish and maybe BisforBuild on one side, then then you have TjHunt and TheStradman on the other. I stick with the former |

Oh I absolutely hate TJ Hunt. If there were a handful of internet personalities I could eliminate Thanos style, he would be at the top. But, it's a relevant video and I know there's a growing number of young buyers who like his style of content... unfortunately.
