It all depends on the setting. Want to race at lights? You bought the wrong car, this doesn't have enough power. Want to get that tingly feeling of going way too fast on a mountain road? You've already got more power than the stock rubber can handle. Get some tires on that puppy and when you'll be going 3X the posted speed through corners, white knuckles on the wheel and not even giving it half gas, ask yourself again if the car lacks power.

While I did choose to add more power, it didn't need it necessarily- I just wanted to make it quicker.

I believe the real reason this car is so excellent is because you can no longer buy a basic ass 2 seater rwd car that comes factory with an LSD that handles well. I cry every time someone says they are buying coilovers or swaybars to "improve" the handling of the car. Bitch, the bar on stock suspension is way higher than most people can drive, mods like that just hide suspension travel so you think it handles better- it's just bringing it down closer to you. This obviously doesn't apply for the few who track this car well.

Power is the same argument- most people increase torque because they can't fathom being patient and gaining momentum. @Joveen tell you what. Watch your mirrors on the interstate and take notice that cars going quickly by you are already going fast - it's not like they're stuck behind you and Instantly rocket to 90mph. You could do 120mph and make any car in the world your bitch if they're holding steady at 75mph

It says to the world that the manufacturer wants a sports car in their lineup, but they're either too cheap or too organizationally stupid to develop one and think their customers are too dumb to know the difference.

To own one of those seems like it would make me complicit in a lie. Even if their customers are too stupid to know the difference, I don't have to be one of them.
this is specifically why i could never own a ford fiesta/focus st/rs/blahblah edition. they built the economy car first, and the performance edition was an afterthought, meaning handling was already compromised. the e-lsd instead of just ponying up for a mechanical lsd that would have changed the price of the final car by $1,000 really, really gets under my skin the most.

but the mustang has always had a v8 option. and we can all fully admit it's main intent is to break free of the mechanical restraints within the engine bay and eat some bystanders.

Funny video. Not wrong. Just annoyingly over-simplified. That said I'd rather have a light car than a heavy one, just like I'd rather have usable torque than peak horsepower. Oh well. Can't win them all. Still planning some kind of performance increase for my car, but it's several years away yet. I go back and forth between a header + tune + final drive change, and a conservative supercharger + cooling upgrade. Choices....

Funnily enough, the 86 is the most powerful car I've owned, so to me it makes plenty of power, especially for how light it is. I don't think there's anything wrong with the power. Though I'll admit to being curious how it would do with more torque, but that's purely a curiosity and not some hardcore desire.
