Same. If the BRZ didn't exist, I'd likely still be in a 3 series or 1 series. Miatas are fun, but I want to daily my fun car, so my kids need to fit lol. I briefly considered an S2000 but realized that if I can only drive it on the weekend I'd be very frustrated. Shit it don't even drive my BRZ during the weekends except to go to the once every 6 months autocross. If I couldn't DD it, it probably wouldn't get driven more than twice a month if that. |

The Supra looks pretty good. Surprisingly small actually, which to be honest doesn't scream "Supra" to me at all but is a good thing. Just walked by an older but still nice looking A70 model on the street. Bitchin' 80's Japanese Camaro, complete with t-tops. Supras have rarely been associated with handling...this version seems to want to change that perception.
2 seats and the price will keep the usual 86 shopper away. Very much seems to be the true Porsche 718/Cayman competitor that for some reason people thought the 86 would be... - Andrew |

Double A arms all around, 3300lbs for the turbo model. It trapped 109mph stock and managed to pull .98g on the skidpad ON 90S TIRES. The 997 needs AWD to that on much better rubber. The brakes were so good that the car to finally beat its braking performance was the Carrera GT! The A80 Supra was a hell of a performer, even stock. The A90 has BIG shoes to fill. |

MkIV turbo was 3500 lb. +/-, and I recall lower trap speeds, quick search indicates 106-107.
I was never a big fan of the MkIV. Very fast, yes, but 3500 lb and 53/47 weight distribution seemed more like a Japanese muscle car to me. One that handled well, to be sure... I think I'm going to like the new Supra a lot more. Particularly if the 4cylinder version is nearer to 3000 lb than 3300. Quote:

I've found 3300 for the early bare bones turbo model. Numbers might be inconsistent across publications I guess. Regardless of the weight, being able to stick to the pavement at .98g on 90s tires is huge! It doesn't tell much about transitive behaviour, but being able to generate that much grip back then was insane. |

But there's the 109mph 1/4-mile! Quote:
However, in this test an FD RX-7, despite being 7mph slower in the 1/4-mile (VASTLY inferior power/weight), went [edit] only 0.35 seconds slower than the Supra around Willow Springs. http://porschecarshistory.com/porsch...nd-mag-081993/ Last edited by ZDan; 08-29-2018 at 01:57 PM. |

Good read. Interesting that dyno results nearly matched factory ratings. Either dynos were too generous or they said numbers from factory were lowered for insurance. Nowadays car dynos figures against factory ratings are usually disappointing.

I couldn't find them either! They only obliquely refer to relative times in the text. And I got it wrong, Viper was fastest, 2nd through 4th fastest were within 0.15 seconds, but that was the 911 Turbo, Corvette ZR-1, and Supra Turbo. RX-7 was 0.35 seconds slower than the Supra. But still, given the power/weight deficit of the FD that's remarkable.
