For ~$3100, I don't think it's bad for a set of Alcons, probably because I've seen a couple friends buy a set for their GT-R...

Anyone else running the Alcon 6/4 BBK have any comments (and pictures), namely whether it is extreme brake overkill + heavy on a non-FI setup?
Currently already upgraded to StopTech SS lines and Street Performance pads on stock rotors, and could consider just getting better rotors and higher temp hybrid / track pads for the track to get more hot laps in. But, am just toying with the idea of the Alcon BBK (front 6pot 365mm disc / Rear 4pot 343mm disc/drum assembly) as an option, mainly for the looks , and better stopping power on the track. Thanks.

If you are presently running the AD08Rs on the track, try some A005s - I think you will find that they will be a better match for the brakes.

So who's going to put together a Radi-Cal kit for the 86?

Just to continue this train of thought...
Here's a link to the CP8522 Radi-Cal caliper (smallest of the 3 sizes that AP produces): http://www.apracing.com/Drawings/CP8522-2~5S0_CD.pdf You can see that it accepts a rotor up to 410 mm x 36 mm. That's their biggest rotor they produce, and not necessarily what we'd want. 16" is overkill for well... anything. If you can identify the ID of the stock wheel, we can calculate the max rotor size: Max rotor OD = Wheel_ID - 2*clearance - 2*(OD of caliper - max rotor position) If we conservatively assume that there is 1/2" from the bead contact zone to the ID of the wheel...= Wheel_ID - 2*3mm - 2*(30mm) That calculates down to 340 mm. The nearest standard disc sizes are: 343, 330, 325, 315. The standard widths available are: 36, 32, 28, and 25.4. For the sake of argument, let's got with 325 x 36. You can do "float in disc" or "float in bell" mounting if you wanna get floaty. Typically you want to float in the disc though. I'm not completely sold on it... but I guess you can also use their new "strap drive" mounting method which further decouples the rotor from the bell: Here's a link to the bell specs: http://www.apracing.com/drawings/cp2494-2000CD.pdf They state that the bells are typically 6.5mm thick, and use 1/4" fine-thread bolts. Bobbins for the chosen disc are CP2494-504MP. This is the "P" type. Washers are CP2494-1305. Nuts are CP2494-117. Mounting the caliper and spacers for the bell are more complicated calculations than I feel like doing at the moment. It does seem do-able though, if you really want to run them. We'd need specs on the OEM wheels and the OEM mounting holes.

Hello! I just purchased a set of the Alcon Extreme 6/4 pot caliper. Do you have any idea where we can buy the spare brake pads for front and rear? Do you know the brand or model of the existing brake pad? I want to keep an extra set to make sure that it will be readily available when i need it someday. Thank you! |

AP, Brembo and Alcon are all nice brake. But dont forget Japanese brand like Endless and projectMu. If I have budget for BBK, the Endless will be my first choice

I was told that there may be issues with VSC or ABS. Did you experience some problems like that , specially on wet condition on tricky roads ?

I didn't notice anything odd about them, ABS seemed to work fine, and VSC didn't throw any curveballs my way either.
