If you want to see what's going on with the engine (without pulling the motor out/apart), just do a damn used oil analysis.

Drain the oil. collect a good sample. refill with used or new oil, doesn't matter.

Wait a few weeks for the UOA to come back and determine next steps.

You found a motor, trans, ecu, pedals, and wiring loom to be cheaper than just a motor?

I think i might need to make some popcorn

Cheaper? No never said that. It was engine, trans, harness, and ecu all on one nice little pallet for 4k. If I got it for a little less than asking, just add pedals and any miscellaneous things = about 4k for manual swap. And if I kept the car that's what I would want to do so why not spend 700ish extra and just do it.

But really that's alot of work and I honestly intend on getting rid of it now and that would be alot of time and more money just to sell it id much rather just find a direct swap and trade. Or better yet I found this niche shop that just fixed an acquaintance's heavily modded sti so maybe they will give me a lower price to fix it. The only problem is I don't want to waste any more money on towing because it's 50 miles away and I'm not sure what there gonna tell me but just like the pump I'm about to try it

But swapping to MT still would require you swapping an engine so there is no advantage as far as costs go.
You still don't even know what is wrong with it. The assumptions are it is major but it could be a cheap easy fix. Find the actual issue before deciding what you are going to do.

Well it's at the shop now. I'm getting a 100% for sure diagnosis now that I found a well qualified place. I should know by the end of tomorrow what it is.

Engine is internally screwed for sure. I'm now wanting to verify compatibility. I know the 13 and 14 brz enfines are exactly the same, as far as frs motors go is the same true? Just any 13/14 frs will work?
