Tell me about it. Except during my rookie year of sanctioned racing, after research I'd wind up ordering competition tires through the local dealer because they gave a trade-in credit for the takeoffs. I was getting a little carried away reordering until another experienced racer saw what I was doing and offered to coach me. No doubt his input helped more than any tire I'd used. But I'm hopeless and still get the urge when the discount coupons arrive in email, even if it's for the wife's Venza with 20K remaining on the OEM's.

Ooooooooo. Optimizing the process sounds like fun. We used to have all manner of consultants coming through every time we got a new president. All were going to help optimize our strategic planning processes. This always involved the development of countless new ways of measuring stuff we already measured and inputting the data into a proprietary software system the consultants had developed and sold to the administration for an outrageous sum of money.

I have to admit it was entertaining. Once we were told we had to report the results of the analysis of some data before the data were to become available. I pointed out that this seemed like a large hurdle to overcome and the consultant replied, "that is not a problem. [our software] can overcome time." The chair of the physics dept was seated next to me. He almost died.

In one proposal for our data collection effort I stated that I was going to measure something using JH-ELL methodology. In the meeting where the consultants critiqued our work, one asked me what JH-ELL was. I replied, "Jimi Hendrix - Electric Lady Land." She looked confused. I said it is premised on the assumption that if one takes a sufficient quantity of the right drugs - anything can make sense.

Several weeks back, bank called to ask for certain employee's employment. I've forwarded that call to HR Manager's line & told him if she's not there, leave a message.

Several days later, same bank called stating he left a message several days ago, but have not heard anything from her. Employee was going to close on the house tomorrow and if they cannot get this employment check done, they won't able to close on the house. I called around to see other HR staffs are around... of course they're not. Bank told me the name of the employee and I knew her. She's in the different department, but I can validate she works here. So the bank ask for my name and position of my work and went his way. Few weeks later, I saw that employee so told what happened. She thanked me and told me everything went smoothly.

Come back to today, I get a call from my boss saying HR manager is upset that I've validated an employee. I told my boss what happened, I ask what should I done instead. She didn't have much answer (she said maybe call her department boss, but back then they didn't have boss and that employee was in charge of that department).

So here I am, debating to go upstairs and see if HR manager is even there & discuss why I get the blame when she didn't do her job.

I would not hesitate to go have a talk with the HR manager and ask what they expect you to do in the situation in which something needs to happen because they didn't do their job.

Right? If it was employee that I didn't know, I might of hesitated. But this was someone I know and have worked before and recently as well. I'm not trying to be the innocent here, but atm I don't see there was other alternate option

If I'm understanding that correctly it sounds like the HR person who didn't respond to the message may no longer be in charge of the department for a reason. I wouldn't confront the person who didn't reply. If they're irrational enough to ignore an employment verification request and then complain because someone else did so despite trying to go through HR multiple times, confronting them about it will likely only result in a pissing match.

So long as your boss understands and there were no negative repercussions other than a talkin' to, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you do find yourself in that situation again, I'd go right to the new HR manager. If they don't respond, escalate it to your boss who hopefully has a better way to contact HR (e.g. mobile phone as opposed to desk phone), or could take it to the new HR manager's boss.

Sorry, should of been more clear.

Let’s say employee who were closing on the house name is… Silvia (car name lol).

My boss, let’s say Celica (another car name) recommended that next time if I get into this kind of situation call Silvia’s boss. But the problem was Silvia’s boss retired several weeks before that call, so she was incharge of that department. To make thing complicated Silvia’s boss’s (retired) boss, since covid, I’ve never seen her or she have ever answer her phone.

So literally only person I was left w was HR manager… let’s say her name is Mustang. Mustang still works here & she was the HR Manager when that call came.
