Might as well stash it away.
It is, only gets powered with the car on or on accessory mode.

See, that's the way it should be. On Subarus, when you turn the car off, the car is OFF. The 12v ports, headlights, everything turns off. I'm a little miffed that on the BRZ the headlights stay on when the car is turned off. What part of OFF is confusing to Toyota?

Thanks!
The BRZ already has a 3rd brake light, it's in the rear window.

Put the headlights on auto, when you turn off the car they only stay on for a minute or so.

I dislike auto. People get used to it then won't think to turn them on in low visibility conditions. I don't like automated systems that can't do a task better than I.

Though I wonder if the timer is on the regular lights. I'll have to experiment with leaving them on...

My mom's Camry turns off auto headlights after 30-60sec, never actually sat there and timed it.

My Audi gives you the option to choose exactly how long the lights stay on when you shut the car off. Necessary? Not really. Cool? A little.

+1.

Half the time I don't even remember/bother to turn the headlights off in my WRX. I just look down halfway through my commute the next morning and think "Why are my headlights on?".

Try clicking the lock button on your key twice, they should shut off after the second press. (they do immediately with auto at least)

Agree completely!

My car has the "auto" feature. I choose to turn my lights on and off every day. Just like turning the key. Part of the motoring experience.

i'm talking about the JDM brake light...the one at the bottom with the reverse light...the red triangle is the JDM brake light that is active in Japan

It's not a brake light, it's a rear fog light.

"JDM brake light" is not a thing. That red triangle is actually the rear fog light and it should not be wired to any part of your braking system. If you DO wire it correctly, put it on its own independent switch or wire it to the front fogs if you have them, then post your pictures in my Rear Fog Thread - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4689

The headlights can't just flat out turn off when the car shuts down. What if you stall while driving at night? Aside from auto headlights I have never had a car that turned off the headlights when the car shut off.

If the car stalls, the key will still be in the ON position so the headlights stay on. My other Subarus all shut the lights off when the key is turned to ACC or OFF and I never had any problems. It was great because I never had to worry about running the battery dry because I forgot and left my parking lights on.

I tried the double-lock button thing mentioned earlier and it didn't work. I'll try to remember to test if the lights turn of automatically tonight.
