Wheel newb- need suggestions for first time purchase

So let me begin my saying I am a complete newb when it comes to Fitment.

I just picked up my 2015 RS, and I want to get wheels for it. It has XXR’s and 205 series hannooks. The tires have somewhat of a stretch and I don’t like it.


I’m looking to buy a high quality wheel and tire setup; around the $1600-1800 mark. Good tires and a good wheel. First question

What wheel size and tire size should I go for. Looking for best Fitment and handling.

Second question - where is a good place to buy a complete setup. Wheels. Tires. Tire sensor monitors.

Do you know what size and offset the XXRs are? You could just get tires to fit them...

Yes, Tire Rack is a go to place for wheels and tires. Discount Tire Direct is also pretty common. Fitment Industries is another one.

Other vendors, like Apex, will sell you wheels and tires, too.

If you’re set on getting new wheels, first decide what diameter you want, and then width and offset. That will narrows your wheel choices down.

If you want a “high quality” wheel and tire package for your budget then 17” wheels are probably your best bet.

Can you get us photos? I've run and seen people run XXRs, nothing really wrong with them if you're not tracking the car or purposefully hitting hard pot holes.

As others have said, if you like the style of the wheel, just get wider tires. I'd expect an XXR on this platform to be in an 8.75" width probably, but there's no way of knowing without taking the wheel off and looking for the specs printed on the back.

I would be focusing on what size tyre you want to run, then look at the rims.

Also think about if you want a bbk later on down the track.

Tyres are the performance, rims are for connecting the tyres to the car, and typically more often than not, the look.

For a NA twin street car on avererage streets and roads you cannot go past 17 x 215 - 225 tyres, sooo... a 17" x 8" rim, so.......I would be looking at the best tyres you can budget for in that range.

Plus the 17 x 215 - 225 tyres are typically much cheaper than a 18 or larger with the typical width.

If you want more meat, a 17 x 235/40 works well and gives a mix of good comfort and performance.

18" will start compromising comfort, 19" will be rubbish for anything other than dead smooth roads.

In the end the car isn't a power house, over tyring a car will remove alot of the playfulness and fun you can have at legal speed limits.

Plus the bigger the rims and tyres, typically the more unsprung weight you have.

Wheels:
Stick with a 17x7 or 17x8 if you really want to go wider. Keep offset as close to stock as possible or you will mess up your effective spring and damping rates. Obviously keep it 5x100. Other than that, there's the style/cost/weight trade off to consider. Weight is an important consideration. I recommend tirerack.com for wheel shopping.

Tires:
Look for articles on tirerack.com and do your research as to what performance level of tires you think you want. Plenty of comparisons and technical info there. As for size, that depends on the size of the wheel. Both 215/45 and 225/45 work on 17x7 wheels I can tell you that much. Again, style/weight/performance/cost play important factors and those differ with taste.

Also don't forget to pick up some hubcentric rings if your new wheels have a centerbore larger than 56mm.

Just gonna throw a curve ball and recommend buying used. You can get a crazy nice set of enkei's with good tires for $1k. Tire rack is great for new. Dont knock ebay either when looking new either. But theres plenty of great used sets out there find your local group on Facebook. I just sold a 1y/o set of enkei's for $1000
