The 2:03 benchmark was given to me because one of these drivers did a 2:03 their first day at Thunderhill.

Hi Mike, it was nice meeting you at the very end on Saturday. We didn't get to talk but it was trooper of you to drive all the way up from SoCal.

The guy must have some r-comps or something aggressive, boosted, and with some aero to hit 2:03. With my stock setup - front camber (-1.2), stoptech street performance brake pads, semi-dead Z2s (8 track days -ish), and a passenger - was able to do 2:11.1 with traffic. Like you have said above, with RS3s (or better), clean lap and 90+ degree weather, 2:07~2:08 is very repeatable.

HAHA we both know it's not possible to do 2:03 stock :p

Was your 2:10 bypass or cyclone config? What is setup on the car?
That is one of the things I love about the west side; it makes it ALOT easier to chase down the high HP cars.

I don't know the exact setup, but it's a setup that's considered comparable to the CSG BRZ.

My guess would be Voltex wing, splitter, JRZ or SRC coilovers, square 255 Z1 Star Spec (older compound street tire) on a S2000. The only detail I was told was that he was on old tires, but I think the tires I was on were worse, since I couldn't get any heat into them at all.

IMO, Thunderhill favors, in this order:

Aero/tire grip >>> Power >>>>>>>> Suspension

Ohhhh so close. Kevin, who goes by sw20kosh , clipped me by 0.04 for top time of the day among 86's on Saturday.

Kevin = 2:09.035
Adam = 2:09.077

Congrats Kevin

That sounds about right. Think about how much time is gained/lost in long medium/high-speed turns: t1, t2, t3, t8. Not to mention the impact a little extra downforce will have on your grip at t1, t3, the cyclone/bypass, and t9.

Sure, power will help you coming out of 12 and coming out of 15. And you can use it to compensate for lower corner speeds in some cases. But I think there are more places (and more time to be gained) where you can save seconds with grip/aero than with pure power.

very nice driving, both Kevin and Adam.

I'm not nearly as fast, but I definitely got my confidence shaken on Saturday after an early spin in the wet session. Should have heeded Adam's earlier advice more carefully as I basically did exactly the same thing, went on the painted curbing at the apex of turn 13 and spun around as I put on the power, thankfully spinning off to the left side. I went slowly the rest of the day... on Sunday I had some coaching time with @CSG Mike and that helped me get some confidence back, so thanks Mike for the help there.

@WoOosOn might have demonstrated this very thing on sunday with his blisteringly fast lap time.

P.S. Power helps a bit after T6 and T9 too. Oh and for actually being able to pass someone when they point you by instead of them thinking "hmm? I guess he doesn't want to pass since he isn't accelerating...oh well" lol

I'll let you guys dissect it a bit first, before I explain anything.
I'm curious to hear the explanation on this one. I'm focusing primarily on the pedal position and steering angle. Looks like you went into a slide briefly and there's some countersteer around :14? Not sure why the pedal went to 0 between :22 and :23. There are a bunch of places where you appear to bring the wheel back straight, but it's not necessarily preceded by gas so it doesn't look like slip to me? I'm also a newb at interpreting this, so I could be way off =)

You're on the right track, but I included the other channels because they will clue you in on what's going on.

Specifically, pay attention to the lateral force, and the rate of yaw. Additional clues are available when you look at vehicle and wheel speeds.
