It was recommended for safe family gatherings over the holidays, and I can't say it's a bad practice. As long as asymptomatic people can spread Covid, there are times to be tested even without symptoms.
If you're doing like I am and WFH, groceries delivered (alley is shit right now and I need to limit physical activity so can't put the snow tires on yet)... yeah - no reason for me to be tested.

I think it is a bad practice in general, at least for the majority of the population. If everyone is vaccinated and nobody is sick, you really have a pretty low risk to everyone involved. Plus there is limited supply in terms of kits and tests/hour. If not everyone is vaccinated and willfully so, then you shouldn't be doing much of anything anyway.

I was sick as hell last week and couldn't sell my ass for a covid test. Luckily a friend had one binax left and it showed negative. If someone really needs a test it sucks to have none available because thousands of paranoid asymptomatic people are running out to get them after watching "the view"

Travel, to watch sporting events. Schools around here require proof of vax or show a negative covid test within the last 72 hours for unvaxxed to watch a school sporting event or extracurricular activity.

Well, there's the problem. That whole unvaxxed portion of the population is clogging up the works. Just eliminating that should ease the testing burden.

Probably. CDC does recommended testing even if you are fully vaxxed if you have even been close contact with someone who has tested positive. I don't know many who have. Most people I know that think they are positive won't go get tested, they just isolate till they feel better. I think that it is kind of weird you wouldn't want to check. They have a drive through testing site here in town. It isn't like having to go to a hospital and stand in a crowded line.

I have had some clients and known others who would get tested just to get tested because they were so paranoid. One even got 2 boosters so far when she works from home and has minimal human interactions, wears 2 masks, and still fears she will die immediately. Ironically enough, her and her husband both got a pretty nasty case of COVID early on right before the lockdowns.

Is the fear stili paranoia if the virus seems to really be trying to get you and has gotten close before? She seems to have earned the right to freak out a little.

Possibly. But they got it before the vaccines were out. So of course it was harsh on them. But to keep at the extreme ends is like getting in a car wreck and either never driving your car again, or wearing every safety equipment known to man.

For the lulz:
What safety equipment known to man is not installed in a car already?
