Average life expectancy from Tein Basics?
I have the opportunity to purchase a set of used Tein Basics off of a close friends FR-S being as he is in the process of selling it.
He has 20,000 miles on the setup and he was asking 400$ for the coilovers. I know I can pick them up new for 618$ from FT86 Speed Factory. What is the average life-span of these coilovers? I would be using them to drop the vehicle 8-11MM (3/4" from stock ride height) so there is plenty travel. I can also get a set of XXR 527 18x8.75 with 80% tread on 245/40 Nitto Motivo's for "900$", but that's for another thread.

Smooth roads mostly. Do you have a set yourself?

It's going to mostly boil down how they original owner handled/used them? If they are still installed on your friends car, go for a ride and see how you like them.

They've been driven on "lightly" compared to what they should be used for. He doesn't hit the corners HARD, he mainly bought them to lower the vehicle. It's been lowered about 1.5" from stock. The ride isn't bad, I just notice a lack of suspension travel in the rear. Tires would be lifting off the ground and the car getting a little too sideways when it should grip. But that's just it improperly tuned I would think.

I think you'll be mostly okay, especially if it's a close friend. If I bought anything off a close friend, it would be as if I was buying my own parts (because I'd know exactly how they were used and I was likely a part of those experiences). Save yourself the $200 bucks if you feel that the coilovers are well taken care of, and you're buying them to lower your car. Just my $0.02

I have also read 50,000 miles is the expected life for coilovers. My first set I blew up, because they were not set correctly, so the mileage will depend on how the owner has "cared" for them.
I have had 245/40 Nitto Motivo's on my FR-S. I do not suggest them. |

LOL Motivo's are all season tires! I run Nitto Invo's, they are perfect for DD. Go with these: http://www.nittotire.com/race-tires/...d-course-tire/ I will be getting these for my next set of tires as I will have my suspention stuff installed by spring.
