Rev Speed presents: Tuning Car Time Attack 2nd Round - Tsukuba
Hyper Meeting 2014
Rev Speed presents: Tuning Car Time Attack 2nd Round - Tsukuba Rev Speed Magazine loves their tuner time attacks, and so does their readers. The stands were full from one end to the other, everybody excited to see how the battle went. In previous years, the entry list was rather predictable, a showdown between Mitsubishi Evo's, Subaru STI's, and a few GT-R's and Silvia's mixed in. From last year that's been changing with the new GT86 (Scion FR-S overseas) and Subaru BRZ taking the tuning and circuit world by storm. AVO Japan has been fielding a BRZ from the launch of the car. Our first AVO turbocharger kit was designed on it and fitted to it, and it's been at the circuit since they got it. And this is no one-off custom car, everything on it is something we sell. In fact, we drove it to and from the circuit (and to the grocery store). This is the 2nd round of 2014, and we had made some relatively large changes from the first round. New aero, more power, more cooling. A new AVO front spoiler and additional power made for a different experience going out from last time at Tsukuba. Ross found that going wide on the entry and then going in was faster than the usual inside line due to the increase in grip. This was due to the new front AVO spoiler giving the front a lot more grip. This also caused us to make many minor changes to the suspension setup and corner weighting, with less toe-in needed in the rear. Using Sunoco 108 octane race gas, Ross went for 13 full laps running at 12psi of boost (.8 bar) without any issues. The water and oil temperatures didn't go over 95 degrees Celcius the entire time thanks to the new AVO oil cooler* and Radiator*. Power was spot on the entire time. At the end of the day Ross threw down the gauntlet to the rest of the BRZ and FR-S crowd with a blistering 1'02.444 second lap, putting him 4th overall. He was the fastest BRZ/FR-S, fastest RWD, and 2nd fastest Subaru (only being beat by a fully built GC8 Impreza race car). The only other cars faster were a pair of purpose-built Lancer Evo 9's. Almost all of the other BRZ and GT86's were using superchargers - and we were a good 2 seconds faster than the fastest one. We would like to give thanks to Liberal and Bridgestone tyres for their support. *Due to be released in May 2014. http://www.avoturboworld.com/media/t...vspeed_007.jpg |
