Very true, but a very different experience from these cars. They've got SUVs that are fast and handle well too, but I don't want one of those either.

I would agree, however, that these cars are underpowered as an ideal car of this type. Its not bad enough to persuade me to get something else, but if this car shipped with 250HP, it would have been perfect. (and probably more expensive)

I’ve had a few stock mustang gt, camaro ss, 335i, golf type R, and stinger GT kills and some FBO 370z kills. Some 40 roll, some 60 roll, some cat mouse chase downs all pretty close. Given any of those with $10k will walk all over me though.
Still a decent FI setup is pretty quick.
Also got completely embarrassed by a turbo 370z, and blew by a senna for him to then fly by me laughing.

I kind of liked having a “sleeper” that doesn’t look like your typical sleeper that got challenged a lot.

So on the original topic, I think the sweet spot for used (at least it was in my experience -- and in Canada West Coast) is the 2016 model year. I was able to get a bone stock and mint 2016 Scion last year with 15K km's on the dial for $17K CDN.....the older ones were not that much cheaper (maybe 1-4K) and were much more "driven" :-)

Good luck with your hunt!

If I was to buy a FR-S in 2021, I'd either go ;'17-19 MT cleanest you can find...yet don't over spend, correct color ( then do the front bumper swap to Pre-facelift) .

Or... go '17-'19 BRZ MT correct color, and leave it how it is.

You should probably look into getting a Chevy SS if you want a sleeper look. That or a G8 GTP.Both are pretty expensive though.

I have a 2017 infiniti q50. The real sleeper. Pushing 400whp/420ftlbs soon 500/500 at that level they beat non nismo GTRs.

The 86 doesn’t look like a traditional sleeper. But anyone who knows cars knows the 86 is slow, so then pushing 300whp on the 86 makes it a sleeper.

It’s less the aesthetic look of a sleeper and more people thinking you’re car is slow and then blowing their doors off. So a boosted 86 is essentially best of both worlds because you get a good looking sleeper.

But 300whp still gets old pretty quick at least for straight line.

Agreed. 3-4yrs old 30-40k miles is the sweet spot in my opinion of still getting a pretty “new” “low mileage” clean car at a good price just after the bulk of the depreciation has hit. Can typically get dealer price at half of new msrp sticker price. Plus facelift models typically retain value slightly better.

I guess you are referring to a highway race? There is no way it’s faster than any GTR at a drag strip or on a track. Unless the GTR driver had absolutely no idea what they were doing.

At least one 11.0 and several 11.1s and 11.2s on stock turbos. Stock non nismo gtr typically run 11.2 to 11.4 looks like 1-2mph avg higher trap for the stock turbo Qs

Wasn’t talking track. Just strip and roll.

Ok big respect to the Q50 damn, they are a lot faster than I realized. And you’re right, that is an incredible sleeper.
