I recently installed a thermocouple on the diff and it was heating up above 300 deg in around 20 min. I am hoping the extra surface area of the aftermarket cover will help keep things cool. I wouldnt trust the rubber o rings on the oil cooler fitting plugs. Use a good thread sealer instead. |

Let us know what difference it makes on the track. I would think capacity and fins might slow the temperature rise.
Glad to see someone has put a thermocouple on one. |

I expect the additional surface area to slow the rate of increase and reduce the maximum temp. Hopefully it will reach an equilibrium point at a reasonable temp. I would like to keep it below 300 deg regardless of the run time. I hope to get back on track within a month and will post results. |

@ROADRACER do you have an update?
With 4.56 gears, over 3 hours cruising on the highway at 80+ is long enough for my diff to start puking out fluid from the vent hole. |

I did a day at AMP a couple weeks ago. The diff stayed under 250 degrees but it was a much cooler day and a different track with lower speeds than before. I cant really say how much cooler the diff would be under identical conditions, but the cover does provide a significant increase in surface area and seems like a quality part.
Next summer I will be able to test on another really hot day. |

It's like the signs some shops have that say "if you keep purchasing all your parts from Amazon, one day, we won't be around to install the parts for you". That said, the Cusco one was too steep for me, and I use a GReddy diff cover that costs $450 and also increases capacity and adds ports for sensors/coolers. https://www.counterspacegarage.com/g...iff-cover-gt86 |

I’m with Mike on this. I think the Greddy is a superior design internally as the flat back diff covers aren’t designed with the ‘flow’ of the oil in mind (see Banks video).
After running with the heat shields on the exhaust, I couldn’t recommend that solution enough as our exhaust pipe is dumping lots of unnecessary heat into our diffs.

I've been running the FT86 cover for the past year racing as well, figured I would save a few bucks from the Cusco one. Literally every Cusco part I've used is really nice, and works well. I would expect their diff cover (and copies) to be no different. Greddy setup is really nice too. I was honestly just more enticed by the cooling fins, so that's why I went with the FT86 cover.
I run 20min sprint races, and probably change my Giken fluid too often, but it comes out looking fantastic every time. It looks so good that I haven't even bothered putting a temp sensor in. I'm installing a new R&P this winter, so will get to inspect everything and see if any abnormal wear is present. I don't expect to find any.

DIY. Also keeps the exhaust from boiling the grease out of the axle.

I mounted up a axle shield as well. I also re-packed my axles with Redline CV2 grease. Full spare set re-packed as well. The OE grease is junk, even with just street use.

@ROADRACER any more testing on the temps? Considering a Harrop or Greddy version for the diff I'm building. Cusco is just too expensive.
