I started driving manual transmissions with a Renault Dauphine back in 1963. I couldn't afford much, so I actually built a body, and two engines myself from the junkyard. It was a great car for college. Then I moved to a Volvo P1800 where I rebuilt the engine and suspension which was a 4 speed. Then I moved to a 1969 Triumph TR6 which only came in a manual transmission. Then to a Honda Accord 5 speed and then to a series of Porsches, both manual and auto. On the auto side, I've owned BMW's, Mercedes, a Buick, and my current SUV, the first I've owned. So when you guys have had as much experience as me driving manuals, please let me know....

All of your BS aside, I love driving manual transmissions at the right time and the right place. I also really like driving my automatic SUV on a long trip, listening to great music, not hearing a bunch of road noise, and getting a great view of the road in a very safe vehicle. I enjoy using paddle shifters as well with a very good DCT trans. I just enjoy cars and recognize that each of them have their pluses. It's too bad you guys are so parochial in your views and feel that you have to defend one particular type of car just because someone else has an objective view.

I'm certainly not an expert on the 86, not even close. Nor, do I want to be. I just like driving the car. By the way, just because you are not sensitive enough to recognize changes in handling, it doesn't mean other aren't. And I don't track cars anymore and haven't in the past decade. But the vast majority of 86 buyers don't track or mod their cars either. You are in the very small minority....

I have actually spent 45 years driving MT cars, trucks and military equipment. I have owned two automatics out of my 30 or so cars. Both of those were the fastest of my cars with one actually competing in street class drag racing back in the 70s.

I have zero negative opinion on the automatic in these cars. In fact I have been know to greatly support them. I do not belong to the MT rules the world club.

Why would you attack others and then share personal information? The information you are sharing makes me feel that you want to sound knowledgeable and have some sort of acceptance. If this is the case; there are ways of sharing your personal opinion and disagreeing with other members without sounding as condescending as you come off.


Of course some people here have as much (if not way more) experience as you driving.

Any car can be a daily, its how you personally use it as a daily determines whether the car is right for you as a daily.

A sportscar like the twins will likely fit the bill enough for young people or couples.

To me, its a second car that's practical enough to be a daily driver.

Thanks guys. I bought it in May 1999 for $6000! Haha. Around roughly 4000 were build over a 2 year span. Wouldn't surprise me if half that number is all that's left.

Put a blanket down takes care of most sap/needles. Good luck with the 3rd Gen 4Runner; those have been spiking in value recently. Especially the manual transmission variety.

Thanks, and great great truck to do what you want to do. I know someone with a 96 and it's a great truck and very capable. there's a great 4runner forum out there t4runner forums or something like that. They will tell you what to look fo when buying. Or my favorite forum of all time ih8mud.com

All BMW's turbo engines since the N54 have been like that, I see no reason to change it. The N54 holds 1000 HP on an unopened longblock, IF you can fuel it.

Pretty sure you should grab some sides to go with that hat as the B58 uses plasma arc lining, not steel cylinder sleeves. 2010 called and wants its technology back.

Good to know, didn't know they thinned the iron lining so much since going closed deck. Technically still a sleeve, but much thinner (0/5mm or so) than before
