We're in trouble anyway. But not really because the vaccine is more or less effective against the new variants; rather, because we keep seeing new variants because it's still going like crazy out there.
Stubborn people refusing vaccines. Poor nations not even receiving vaccines in the first place. Such a world of selfish bastards. Really makes me wonder if we're worth bothering with.
Probably some alien set it loose to take over a lovely planet full of diverse flora and fauna once we're cleaned up. And such amazing sunsets. Can't say I blame them.

94.3% to 64%. That is the quote I posted from the article. Am I missing something? I feel like I am the only one who read the article.

I read your article yes. I thought the quoted post was about the 98-95% drop referenced above it.

I'm a bit skeptical of the methods used to determine efficacy. I've seen other numbers indicating mid 80s to low 90s against delta for Pfizer. I suppose the unvaccinated provide a control of sorts, though the knowledge that one has or does not have the vaccine might affect their behavior, as opposed to a double blind.

Wow, how does the virus keep disproportionately attacking conservative areas?

I went back and reread the most important part that should help reduce any panic or worry. On the delta variant the Pfizer shot went from 97% prevention of serious illness requiring hospitalization to 93%

The drop to 64% immunity only shows the huge potential for a variant hotbed to propagate. This only makes it that much more necessary that everyone take both vaccines and that we all use masks in crowded situations and indoors. If we do that and fewer and fewer people contract the virus, it will all but peter out.

People that simply refuse to get vaccinated or use masks where necessary are looking more and more like sociopaths.

It would be really painful to see another preventable wave.

I'm having a difficult time not giving in to the feeling of schadenfreude. I really don't enjoy other's misfortune, but I can't shake the sensation of karmic destiny. On the other hand their pig headedness and stupidity could very well come back to bite us all in the ass.

I was referring to the vaxed population. If 1) Delta gains a foothold in the unvaxed community (as it apparently is) and 2) mutates into a variant that can circumvent current vaccines (as many in this thread suggested could happen), we're back to square 1. I don't think that's happened yet - but, if/when it does, we'll all know EXACTLY who is to blame.

You bite your tongue. Those people who were smart enough to not get the vaccine are the victims of oppression and government experimentation. They are FAR from the problem!!

Say hello to lambda variant.

So far 11 cases of this Peruvian variant detected in Canada. It's been spreading throughout South America.

Vaccine effectiveness has been varied. Non-vaccinated people will provide a reservoir for the evolving virus. It is thought to be potentially more contagious.

Another thing, a study of 10,000 Canadians pre-vaccination has shown that age group under 12, largely asymptomatic, show the highest percentages having been previously infected. Advice to unvaccinated people or those immune compromised should be to take precaution to protect from exposure to young people.
