Yup, that video tells you a lie
You can typically turn in harder with a bit of brake pressure
than without braking.

In fact even if we forget about longitudinal weight transfer,
with the apparatus they've demonstrated at 2:45
you will end up with a diamond of friction (◆) in the G-plot
instead of a circle of friction.

They're specifically agreeing with you that you're supposed to trail off the brake as you turn in, not full release...

Yes, but if you follow the arc of the circle at turn in you will underutilize the front grip.

The shape you should follow at the turn in should be
more like omega (Ω) without the "legs" than a half-circle (◠).

Bumpity bump for 2022.

Planning on running the RT660's this year after trying the Yoks last year. They held up with 150 runs, but I didn't love how they overheated easily. I always struggled with my afternoon runs.

Finally planning on adding a front swaybar too as my endlinks/bushings appear to be clunking. I plan on sticking to street class, but eventually going to STX longterm.

The Perrin 22mm bar is 130% stiffer on the soft setting and 218% stiffer on hard. Do you think this on soft would be too much? I like that the Perrin bar doesn't contact the lower control arm like the Whiteline has been reported to in some circumstances. Plus it has a built in locking washer like Whiteline's collars.

Strano's bar (not available anymore) is about 85% stiffer. Whiteline's 20mm is 118% on the soft setting - which isn't far off of the 130% of the Perrin.

Basically, I want the front to not roll as much to keep the limited front camber we have in check, without adding a ton of understeer.

Be curious to hear from people running the gen 2's who have run events already or will in the next couple of weeks.

Our season doesn't start until late March and this year we don't get a "Test 'n Tune" event like we used to due to scheduling issues. I'll be hitting my first points event in a brand new platform totally cold. I've done 3~4 seasons with other cars in their respective Street Class, but new to this platform.

At this point I'm just wondering about tire pressures. My GTI only needed a little bump to the tires, but my 435 was a pig and took a lot of air to stay off the sidewalls.

My first local in the BRZ will be on the 28th. I'll also have the car at the TX Pro Solo in mid-March. The car will be stock other than tires (Falken) - maybe an alignment if I get around to getting the OEM lower bolts in time. Hoping the Karcepts bar will be off backorder in time for the Pro but not holding my breath.

I'd like to get Konis on the car once I figure out if the set for the prev gen fit within the +-1" rule for the new gen but that's not at the top of the list right now.

The rear spring design changed too along with the perch of the shock. IDK how that will affect the konis legality on the 22's too. The pig tail on the spring comes in about 10mm tighter than the old car.

I should send a note off to Koni NA about 2022 development and see if they respond. They're pretty active SCCA sponsors so I imagine they'll understand what we're looking for.

They're waiting on me to send them my stock stuff. I'm waiting on RCE to get them back so I can send them to Koni.

I had the chance to ride along and drive in a 2022 BRZ at our first test and tune (yes, in February in PA... it was cold, but dry. Warmed up to about 45-50 degrees).

It packs a good punch. The power puts you back in your seat a bit, especially in the mid-range. I couldn't help but have this grin on my face because it was that much quicker. It's noticeably quicker than "headers and a tune" STX setups. I'd rank it right in between the kick of a Civic Type R and BRZ.

Handling wise, it's virtually the same thing as the older models - at least when comparing it to my refreshed 2017. However, I think the power helps the balance and rear rotation in stock form. The car was on the stock tires.

Brakes were cooked and smelling. Definitely would need new pads for even autocross business.

I had Alex Piehl (STH national champ) run my car with A052's and he got a 24.6 on our test course (with me only getting a 25.3 are ten runs...) and the new BRZ on stock tires I saw him run a 25.0, possibly faster on additional runs.

Bottom line, the 2022 is quick. Very quick. On 200TW, I'd expect it to be 0.5 sec quicker on a 30 second course or likely a second quicker on a 60 second course.

One thing I did not like was the tach in performance mode. You can't see anything under 4k RPM, so launching you need to do purely by sound. Not ideal for autocross.

Mark Scroggs drove Ed's car.

http://www.sfrautox.com/wp-content/u..._02_class.html

Per Ed, stock shocks, karcepts bar, 225/40/18 Falkens, crash bolts, no pro alignment.

In car looked pushy.

Looking at the results, it seems like every class with comparable grip ran the about the same time.

0.375 behind CS ND MX5
0.264 behind DS CTR

Maybe with shocks and some alignment tweaks the car will be able to carve out its spot in D-Street.

Not the overdog it seems

Was this at Crow's? Not sure the gain from 18s at the top is going to outweigh the quicker accel from 17s, even at Crow's with 3rd gear usually being mandatory. How prepped is that CT-R? I don't know the driver but just looking at index times for S1 and SMP that's looking *maybe* competitive with a full setup. 1.6s off on index is a lot. But hey it straight timed STX?
