It's just a bit set on some option table in the firmware. Like turning off DRL or whatever. They plug in the goddammit, flip through a couple menus, and 'click' done.

Have you guys all heard it in person yet? I’m willing to give it a few days until I pull the fuse and then have the dealer disable it on the first oil change.

I want to hear it in person first, but I'll probably have it turned off as well.

I still say my first thought was "Oh wow, they put a much nicer sounding exhaust on this gen" then I remembered it was the engine speaker. I feel like most things, one person said it's stupid so it's now trendy to say it's stupid, the end of the world, and worth not buying the car over. It's really not hateful at all. And if you want to be trendy, turn it off. You do you, boo.

So you weren't even a bit disappointed when you realized the sound was fake?

Nope. Who cares? I mean if you care that's totally fine. To me, it doesn't detract from the experience. When I end up putting on an exhaust that has a more desirable tone than the stock exhaust, I'll probably turn it off so they don't compete. Until then, no big deal. YMMV.

The reason I will find a way to turn off the fake engine sound is that I don't want it competing with my music or conversation in the car. I am hoping there will be a tech that posts how to get into the service mode to disable it.

This is why I’m planning to at least give it a shot. If you like the way it sounds, who cares if it’s fake? |

If only
If only they put it in the settings menu this wouldn’t be a conversation. Perhaps in 2023. They know best though. I’m almost considering having the dealer turn it off when I pick it up. Undecided yet and I probably have months to ponder as the delivery boats rock to the ocean.

I’m betting we’re going to see an aftermarket patch harness that plugs between the module and the speaker that will give us a volume control knob.

I heard that if you purchase an Ecutek license for this car they will offer the option to add a mild 40 HP bump or an aggressive 75 HP bump to the boost sound thru the speakers.
For an additional fee there will be a physical transducer option for a belt driven or exhaust driven compressor to provide the actual power. An optional exhaust and intake will be required to reproduce the actual rumble and whoosh sounds. It will only be available for UEL since it is traditional for fast Subie engines to sound like a farm tractor. Who are we to change tradition. Optional bumper sticker says: "UEL -3HP"

Anyways, since you're in Vantucky, you're more than welcome to come listen to mine. Comes in next week but I'm out of town, so likely picking it up the 26 or 27th. |
