Need help - GT86 vs BRZ rear brake compatibility
Short backstory:
I have a GT86 2014 - ZN6AL. Recently the rear RH brake got stuck and burned out the pads and disc, so I had to replace both rear disks, pads and also the stuck guide bolts (slide pins). Guide bolts were a pain to find - mechanic found only Subaru Tribeca ones looked same only slightly longer - he cut them and they fitted, but there were only two of them - for one wheel, so he left LH same, they were in normal condition. Unfortunately after disk and pad replacement the LH brake is now stuck and I don't want to burn out new brake pads and disk. Basically car is now standing... I need stock guide bolts and piston replacements now for rear LH brake and it's not possible to find ones in Baltics for GT86... unless dealership, which wants 170 euros for it (entire brake caliper 650euros)... Ordering from Japan is an last option, because the car will be standing for several weeks until it comes and still quite expensive - around 100 euros... Question: Does Subaru BRZ have same brake calipers? Will guide bolts and piston fit? Because I found brake repair kits for BRZ in my country (Estonia) with all needed and good price. Or perhaps some other Toyota/Subaru models have same brake calipers? Like the Subaru Tribeca? Really appreciate your help! |

Yes, the brake components are the same. In fact, they are Subaru components so if you find anything with a Toyota badge on the box it will just contain the same Subaru parts inside.
AFAIK, the rear brakes on the Twins come from the Subaru Legacy GT and might be shared with some other Subaru models. |

That depends. Which brake system do you have?
@Ohio Enthusiast OP is international, and may not have the same brakes. All US cars have the "premium" brakes, which overseas base models may not have. |

Interesting, I didn't know that there were multiple brake options around the world. Learn something new every day. I'll defer to more knowledgeable people, then.

Thank you for the info. Bought the BRZ repair kit, it's only 25 EUR and I can return it, if it doesn't fit, but I sure hope it does - guide bolts look same to GT86 ones, not sure about the piston and other small details.
I will post once my mechanic tries it. Fingers crossed. Btw, compatibility table is quite wide among Subaru models on these parts: https://alvadi.ee/en/kataloog/varuos...duct-tab-comp2 Toyota is not mentioned however... Last edited by SeriWolk; 04-18-2022 at 06:17 AM. |

The piston and guide bolts fitted nicely, however issue wasn't resolved - car was driving fine for several days within city limits, but once I drove outside at speed of around 120kph it got stuck again - I had to make an emergency stop - the pads were smoking and the disk was more white than red due to overheat. Had to call a tow truck.
Mechanic told entire brake caliper needs replacement. Didn't find brake calipers for GT86 again... Found BRZ ones again... waiting for them to arrive. Weird thing that in city limits on slow speed it doesn't overheat at all now... Not sure how high speed has something to do with brakes... Anyway - not going outside city limits until I replace the calipers. |
